Blogger's Quilt Festival - Applique Category

It is that fun time of year again!  Twice a year during quilt market, Amy over at Amy's Creative Side hosts a Blogger's Quilt Festival.  I entered two quilts last year (Throw and Professionally Quilted categories) and this year I thought I would enter this appliqued wall hanging.

All of the applique is done by hand.  I used a needle turn method.  The shapes are simple so I relied on colorful fabrics and fun prints to add alot of character to the piece.

I kept the colors in the background more muted and pastel and used stronger more vibrant colors in the appliqued flowers.  This contrast meant I could use busy fun prints throughout the whole piece.

It is such a fun, whimsical piece.  I quilted each block using the fabric pattern in the background to influence my quilting.  There are lots of different quilting textures, which draws people close when they see it in person.

This wall quilt is 46 x 52".  I used the Chelsea Quilt pattern out of Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in the Sun book  The quilt in the book was made from dark oranges.  I'm glad I decided to go with these soft purples and aquas. Perfect for spring!

I will be entering this quilt in the applique category.  There are already some amazing quilts there to see....So much talent!

Thanks for stopping in.  Be sure and check out all the entries in all the categories.  There you will find lots of inspiration and ideas and the stories behind each quilt are always fun to read.

I think I've commented on this quilt before, but I just love the colours you've chosen. That print on the border just brings out the colours in the blocks so well.

You did a beautiful job! I know how hard it can be to do small curves with needle turn...
