Scrap-A-Palooza! Quilt #13 Part Four Finish

I am still marching on, trying to sew up my ever growing scrap bins.  This has been a really busy week but I still found time to get the Scrap-A-Palooza quilt on my longarm machine and get it quilted up.

To refresh your memory on how this quilt progressed:

The quilt started out with a quick sort to pull out just turquoise and lime green scraps.  Somehow, yellow made its way in the process too!

In Part Two, I shared how I make my improv blocks.  I made a stack of green and a stack of turquoise blocks.  Tiny bits of the yellow fabric went in each block.

I have been wanting to play with a two color backing for a bit now, so in Part Three, I shared how I used gray and white to set my blocks.  In no time, I had the quilt top finished.

And because the sun popped out today, I was able to snap an outdoor photo of the finished quilt.  I find the gray and white background very playful.
This will certainly be something I revisit in the future.

For the quilting, I chose to do a simple squared off swirl.

And for the back of the quilt, no turquoise and lime green fabric found in my stash was safe.  Whatever I could find went into this pieced back. It really cleared out some old fabric!

I like it!

And now for a few statistics:
Lap Quilt
Size: 55 x 68"
Large blocks trimmed to 8.5", Small blocks trimmed to 6.5"
Sashing and "stagger" pieces are all cut at 2.5"wide.

Remember, if you need some inspiration on how to use your scraps, the Scrap-A-Palooza gallery page has all the links to previous scrap quilts.

Yay! It's gorgeous! I do appreciate the recap of the steps that were taken to make the quilt. I like to see the process. I think the addition of the yellow into both sides was really a great move. And both white and gray give it an interesting distinctive feel, too. It is a very happy quilt :). Beth

I really love the two tone background you used here, and I've linked several people to that post for suggestions when they have been stumped lately. Lovely finish!

What a fun finish. The backing is perfect. I want to work on some boxy quilting designs soon. Did you free hand this or use a pantograph?

Wow - I'm not much of an improv person, but that turned out really cute. I think the way you color blocked it made it work really well.

I like the way you utilized the white and gray for the background. Love the use of leftovers on the back too.

Just beautiful! I'm always amazed at what you pull out of a scrap bin!! I've started on my own scrappy quilts, just wallhanging size for now, but it's so much fun to only work with bits I can find in my bins. They sure don't seem to be emptying anytime soon, though :-)

Just popped by from TGIFF - this quilt is so much fun! I love the improv blocks, and the two tone background is a stroke of genius! Nice work!

You've had so many great finishes recently! I haven't had a moment to comment on all of them. I always enjoy your Scrap-a-Palooza quilts. The heart blocks are on my list, too! And the Layers of Charm quilt will be a great one for a quick finish. Thanks for all the inspiration!

I really like the two-color background. It adds to the lively look of the quilt. And the lime and turquoise are terrific together. I'm jealous of the bare ground you photographed the quilt on. Here in Minnesota we have a layer of snow, with very cold air coming. Wind chills tomorrow are going to be below zero. Brrrrr.

That's just terrific Cyndy, from start to finish! I hope someday I'll have lots of scraps and can pull out bunches of color like that - it looks fun!

Turned out fabulous. Love the colors you choose and the idea of two colors for background. I will have to give it a try. micki@2dogsstudio.us

I've been watching this come together, sorting away my similar colors and now I've pinned it so I can remember what my scraps are for. *grinning* Thank YOU!

I just love this so much. I have a new quilt guild that wants to do some improv stuff and I think this would be so fun. However I don't have great scraps so I will have to be doubly creative. :)

I really like the two color background. And the quilt just makes me think Summer (which we need so badly today--single digits and WIND). And I'm always giddy about pieced backs! Fun!

I just love the way your scrappy quilts look so planned and put together! That grey and white combo as background is very striking!

Ooh, I like it too! Especially that interplay between the white and grey background and the colours are just fabulous. So cool that it's a 'scrap' quilt! So glad you linked up to TGIFF, Cynthia!
