Scrap-A-Palooza! Quilt #17 Part 4 Finish

Have you been wondering if I was ever going to finish this quilt?

I am the first to admit that I don't fall in love with every quilt I make.  And from the beginning, this quilt never really made me happy.

But I didn't give up on it!

I started out wanting to use up some black and white fabric chunks I had in my stash.  I decided to also pull some leftover solids - there are crossweaves, peppered cottons, kona and shot cottons in the mix.

I sewed and sliced and sewed some more until I came up with this block.  I really didn't love it but I thought it had potential!

This project still fought me when I laid it out on my design wall.  I really thought I was going to have to admit failure.  But eventually a quilt top did come together.

I really didn't like it much and was secretly relying on the quilting to save this project!

Well, here it is all finished!  And it is starting to grow on me!!
I am fascinated by the colors (kinda eclectic), the subtle 3D effects and the contained chaos it evokes for me.

This quilt is being donated to an organization that provides comfort items to kids in crisis.  I hope it finds its way to an older child that will love it to pieces.

For the quilting, I simply did some boxy line quilting.

A shaded black and white print from my stash (it looks gray until you get close) and more blocks on the backing.  I finished it off with a solid black on the binding.

A wonderful quilt all ready for a new home!

This is my first quilt being linked up with Quilts in the Queue for the 100 Quilts for Kids event.  I have participated for a couple of years now.  It is a great event and you have until the end of September to finish your quilts.  So there is still lots of time to make a quilt yourself!

Need ideas?  There are lots in the Scrap-A-Palooza Quilt Gallery.  Just grab your scraps and pick a project.  They are all fast and easy!

The quilting does add so much to the quilt. I think it looks great and I'm sure an older (or younger) girl will treasure it.

Glad it's finally growing on you and yes it'll make some little/big girl very happy. I feel that way about projects - the potential and the struggle. Good for you that you kept going. Congrats on the finish.

I really like the movement of the black and white interiors. I find it so hard to work on a quilt I don't like, good job finishing!

It's funny to hear you talk about this quilt like that, because I've been in love with it since you first showed it! I have hopes to make something very similar after my current project. Thanks for sticking with it!

The colors remind me so much of my teenage years... congratulations on getting it finished, and it is always nice when a project grows on you the more you work on it.

The colors are great and the quilting accents the pattern so well! Someone is going to be lucky to get such a pretty quilt.

Ooh I love the colors - teal with pink an dpurple work well with black & white. And I am abig fan of straight line quilting...may be because I have yet to learn FMQ. All in all, a fabulous finish!!!

Oh wow it turned out great! It almost looks like a bunch of framed pictures. Love the pieced back too - it does look like gray fabric! Glad you kept at it - it was worth it.

What a good looking finish! I sure do understand the "Ugly Duckling" stage that some quilts go through. I think that you made a swan by sticking with the process and not giving up. The lighter pinks and turquoise additions helped to make the colors less gloomy and somber, those were great choices!

Great use of scraps. Hate when a project fights you. Sometimes just stepping away and coming back later can really help.

Great job at using up those scraps. Some teen is going to love it. I love the way you did the backing too :)

This quilt turned out beautifully! Having taught 5th graders forever, I'm thinking the preteen set would love those colors. Your quilt will make some lucky child very happy!

My fav combo, black and white and solid shots of color :)
Quilts always sneak up on me... sometimes I think if I ever see the quilt I'm working on, ever again, it'll be too soon, but then, don't you know it, after it's quilted, I miss it!!!!
