Putting those Crumbs to Work

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
And to celebrate I finally have a quilt finish to share.

Thanks to the beautiful spring weather, I haven't been spending too much time in my sewing room.  But I did find time to quilt up this scrappy quilt top I finished up a couple weeks back.

So many tiny bits of fabric in this one!

It is hard to believe how many different fabric scraps I have.  I guess when you make as many quilts as I do, you end up with lots of bits of fabric.

The quilt measures about 50" x 60" so I was able to use a two yard piece of an older striped fabric for the backing.  All I had to find was a piece to add to the side for the width I needed.  I thought this "where else am I going to use" grape fabric would work perfectly fine!

Colorful scraps are so much fun to play with.
I am continually surprised how they all come together in to one lovely quilt.

I love your grape and turquoise quilt! Were the scraps sewn into blocks to make it? Randomly? Or was there a method to your madness? sure is cheery!

It's beautiful! All those bits of so many fabrics must be like a quilter's I-spy game :) The grape fabric really is the perfect choice for the backing too.

Couldn't love that quilt any more! It's a lot of work to put that many crumbs together - not sure I have the patience from that! - but it does pay off! It's so glorious!

I love this so much, the colourwash from aqua to purple is gorgeous! Do you have any tips or posts on how you constructed the slabs of scraps? I have some scrap baskets that could perhaps benefit from this treatment! Thanks in advance! :)

Congrats on a great finish. I am not amazed by how many different fabrics you have-I am in the same boat, LOL Recently a friend was over and was asking how I go about putting fabrics together as hers doesn't look the same. So I made the mistake of opening one of my closets to show her buy more tone on tone type...she about fell over when she saw how much fabric was in there...that was not even close to all of it, haha.

Oh, I hope you're planning to keep this one for yourself. Look how cuddly it would be on a cold winter's night! Or how cheery on a rainy day :) Just gorgeous!!!

That quilt is the perfect example of why I love scrappy quilts! Just so beautiful! Looks like you found the perfect backing for it, and had fun quilting it, too. Glad to hear you're having good weather for gardening, too, though!

What a gorgeous quilt, Cynthia!!! Must have taken you forever to get the gradation from purple to blue just right. Must be a million times when you moved just one block from here to there.

Beautifully done! Love the color fade from blue to purple. That's so hard to get right and you seem to have mastered it. Congrats on a beautiful scrappy finish.
