Oh Scrap! : Chasing Full Bins

I thought I would spend some time Saturday cleaning up my sewing room.  Once I stored all the piles of bits away, I discovered my bin of leftover bindings was overflowing it's brim!

I cut my bindings 2.5" wide so turning them into 16 patch blacks just requires pieces that are over 20" long paired up with a complimentary color.  In no time at all, I finished up these 21 blocks and have a number of strips next to my machine awaiting some time to sew.

This design is one of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts.  You can read more about how I make them and see more quilts here.

I am hoping if I put together a donation quilt top from this bin, it will be a bit before it will need attention again.  Then I can focus on the next scraps that are overflowing their storage!

How do you decide what scrap quilt you are going to work on next?

I don't know if I ever really 'decide' what I'm working on next. Usually a project grabs hold of me and off we go! 8)

I am trying to use all kind of scraps. Now they are organized and sorted by size and color.

I always forget how nicely the leftover binding strips turn into 16 patch blocks. I'll have to pull out my basket of bindings and see what's in there!

I don't decide...the scraps do!! Not always though! I admire how you whip up blocks so quickly!

I love a 16 Patch in any size, any theme, any colors! I use my bindings for scrappy bindings so would never have enough for a quilt but it's a great idea.

I have so many scrap piles, bins and boxes to choose from but I usually tame all of them over time with various Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects.

I make my bindings 2-1/4", but those would work, too, for this 16-patch quilt. I'm going to start doing that! Hopefully. Probably. Maybe. Sigh.........

Great work on the leftover bindings strips. My bindings leftovers join the strips in a drawer depending on the color. As for the next project, I usually pick something that is quite different from the last one. Otherwise, I get bored. ;^)

What a great idea! I need to gather all my remnant binding pieces and see what I can come up with.

I don't really decide. My RSC projects come first and then I try to work on some WIPs, but don't often finish one. I always use 2.5 strips, none smaller, so I can use them for binding or cut them in lengths for any needs. I also trim scraps to the same width.

What a great use of binding strips. I use them for min quilts but my box is overflowing now. May have to try your idea.

I do love a good 16 patch, and yours are so fun and scrappy! My next project usually appears while I'm cleaning up something else. Something fun that I forgot I had gets unearthed and whispers my name :)

My binding leftovers (well longer ones...) are stored in their own box. I go to it when I do scrappy bindings. Hum... I am trying to finish some UFOs along with making a few quilts that are new. I keep buying or getting cute kids fabric so I have been making a few kits so all I have to do is pull the pattern out along with the cut pieces and sew the smaller quilt together. Instant quilt top or so it seems.

It won't take long to get enough blocks for another quilt

Good use of left over bindings and I just headed over to your link to read more about how your make them, I am buried under strips so these could be put to good use after seeing your Scrap-A-Palooza quilts.
