Oh Scrap! : A New Start

I have been trying to get my sewing room cleaned up a bit lately.  This is always dangerous for me because I tend to get inspired and start new projects.  Yes, we all know where this is going....

I have a big tub of Kaffe Fassett scraps under my cutting table.  As I considered breaking it down into their appropriate color bins, I noticed there were a number of large scrap pieces in there.  Well, they somehow fell under my rotary cutter and soon became these colorful 8.5" blocks.

Which are quickly filling up one of my design walls.  I am not sure exactly how big this quilt will be, but I still have more than half of the blocks to sew.

And my "Kaffe" scrap bin is still intact.  Of course,  once I looked at all the scrappy bits that were left, I thought they might make a colorful scrap quilt for me to create in the future.

Oh well, at least the bin is no longer over-flowing!

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

In my book, starting a new quilt is one way of cleaning up. You get to use scraps that were "messing up" the sewing room, therefore it is a kind of cleaning. So, go for it! Start as many quilt as you wish. You're in the cleaning process. :^D Enjoy! ;^)

I'm with Chantal! You might as well sew those scraps into something, right?! The same thing happens to me, although I don't have Kaffe scraps like you do. They are fun and colorful!

Oh, you had me at Kaffe...
And I'm agreeing with Chantal - starting a new quilt definitely counts as cleaning up!

I'm looking forward to seeing what direction you go with this quilt. Side by side for what I refer to as "Kaffe Overload" or a setting with some breathing room. It's sure to be a colorful beauty, either way!

I love how you dive in and just start making with your scraps. I tend to spend too much time thinking about what to make.

Cynthia, I love your blog and so enjoy reading every email i get. I love this block, and not being an “expert quilter” but seeing how it is made, I’m reluctant to peruse on my one, without a pattern or instruction sheet. It looks to me as if you used a 5” square for the center and then one on each side. But I am not knowledgeable on the block patten, but I love it! Can you tell me what the name of the block is, or how I can get pattern? I love how you just pick up and make a quilt from what you have. I wish I wasn’t afraid to just start something without a pattern. But I love all the improvised quilts I see you and others do. Keep encouraging those of us reluctant to try things on our own.
