Donuts (The Size of your Head)

Funny title, huh!  But that is the real name of the pattern for today's finished quilt.

Each donut measures 18" across so my quilt ended up at 66" square.  The pattern in the book adds two more rows - that was just too big for my liking.

This pattern is found in Amanda Jean Nyberg's book "No Scrap Left Behind".  It is filled with wonderful ideas for scraps.

I thought it would be fitting to use Amanda Jean's Asterisk fabric in red for the background.  I picked this up at Connecting Threads during one of their sales and I really like how it worked with all the scraps.

In fact, I used one another one of my Connecting Threads sale fabrics on the back and binding.  They no longer have the purple but they do still have some other colors in their sale section.
That is one of the great things about scrap quilts - you have lots of options for backs!

I used a white thread for all of the quilting and played around with some graffiti quilting.  I kept it simple with just a few designs and kept the quilting fairly open.

I have had this pattern pinned for years and I was so excited to finally make one of my own.
My initial plan was to make this quilt an RSC project but I was having too much fun with it!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Cute! Did you plan your color placement ahead of time?

This is one of Amanda Jean's quilts that is on my bucket list too! Great job, I like the slightly smaller size. Now if I can just find the perfect background fabric.....!

It's stunning. I love it. I plan to make as many of her patterns as I can. Right now, I am getting my fabric boxes made. I think I just have a couple left to make.

I love this quilt. It is so colorful and bright and cheery! Great finish. I am always trying to find a way to use my leftover fabrics and this fits the bill beautifully. Thanks for the inspiration. Nadine W. rnwillis@velotech.net

This is absolutely beautiful. I love the way you use your scraps in such creative ways. I will have to check out the book so I can start using up the scraps I have.

I love it!! Totally understand why you just kept working it until it was finished. Did the pattern suggest string blocks? This one would be fun with crumb blocks, too. And since I'm making them for RSC this year perhaps some donuts are in my future :)

Love it! Love it! Love it! I have to laugh when I see people go ahead and finish what starts as a rsc project because they just can't wait to get it done. That's why I start a LOT of different ones...I wouldn't be able to decide which one(s) to finish early.

I really like that block. I have one bookmarked that uses strings and a constant gray in the middle of both the diagonal and vertical string blocks. Those blocks I'm looking at finish at about 13.5 inches. I guess that's big head sized too.

Love this quilt and I agree that 66" is a good size. I find I'm tending towards the smaller size these days.

Great finish! Love the colors. And it is rainbow-y without being in the stricked order. Perfect! xo Melanie

Those are giant blocks. The finished quilt looks great! Always happy to have a nice backing choice on hand.
