Yep! I am Still Playing with Orphan Blocks

Here it is...my second finish made from my orphan blocks!

This quilt started out from this block pull out of my Orphan Block suitcase.  I pulled all of the bits and pieces that were red white and blue.

There are leftovers from five projects pictured.

I started out by using the paper pieced star in the center and then using some of the other blocks to create a pattern around it.  I simply sliced them into fourths and sewed them together.

I would have liked to better frame the star but it would have thrown the math off on all the other pieces.

I used some of the other leftover parts to create an outer border.  The Kona Ice Frappe solid fabric that was used in these leftover blocks, I also used as the background so that the outer border appears to float around the edge.

Here it is in its entirety.  It measures about 38" square.  It will make a cute little donation quilt and will live in a pile of quilts just waiting for a home for now.

I was able to find some pieces of my favorite navy sketch fabric (I purchased from Connecting Threads) to piece together and make a backing.  The seams don't show at all in this print so I was able to use almost everything I had.  I quilted it with my go-to swirl pattern in a soft mint green thread.

I am still working on a few more orphan block quilts.  I think there will probably be five total.  If you want to see the first one I made from leftover strip sets, you will find it here.

Have a fun and scrappy weekend!

I love the Kona Ice Frappe background color! I've never used a color like that for the background, but now I'm sure I *need* some! :) That is a great little finish, Cyndy.

You're certainly using up those orphan blocks!! Good use of all the smaller left over bits from other projects and I love the coral pieces you've used with the blues and grey.

Another adorable quilt. I so admire your ability to, as the saying goes, "make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". Another quilt that is sure to be cherished.

That's a great quilt; you'd swear it was planned from the start. I have my orphans out, looking at me balefully. Will have to follow your excellent example.

I really like this quilt!
You've inspired me to look at my orphans (I usually just ignore them...) - I'm sure that there's at least one or two quilts hiding in those piles!
And Kona Ice Frappe? Game changer!
