Another Something New

Somehow, as I allowed myself to start a new scrap quilt in pinks, oranges and yellows, I slipped some other scraps under my needle and started a second project.

This idea is another one that has been in my head for quite some time.  I have been just waiting for the right fabrics to come along.

As I was cleaning up some of my fabric, I came across this lovely Kaffe Fassett Collective fabric.  I had four wide strips that came off the backing trimmings from a previous quilt.

As I was standing in front of my stash pondering this fabric, my eye landed on this black and gold rose fabric (that I have NO idea where it came from but it really needs to go).
I knew I had the start to something fun.

I cut the big print into a 4.5" x 6.5" rectangle and framed it on three sides with a tiny strip of the black.  Then it was just a matter of adding two more fabrics to create a 10.5" x 9.5" block.

I have decided to use my scraps that are florals, geometrics and solids.  I also want to keep to the red, purple, green and brown colorways.

Here is what I have so far!

I seem to have become a bit obsessed with this one and have completely forgotten about the other dozen quilts in the works around my space.  Now that I see how it is going to look, maybe I can get back to working on a bit of everything and see some progress on other things.

Needless to say my sewing room is a scrappy mess right now.  I think the only color of scraps that aren't littering my workspaces are blue right now.

Fingers crossed I didn't just jinx myself...….

Sometimes you have to get a project 'out of your head' and started. It allows you to get back to other projects with a clearer mind!

I almost always make myself sick when I start digging through UFO's or open my scrap bins-just tooooo much in there!! But you seem to handle it quite well;) I think you are onto something fun with this quilt.

ooohh . . . I love how this is looking. It has a very fallish feel about it. I just made a fall quilt from Kaffe fabrics. I had just a few of his brownish prints that were given to me and sudden inspiration hit to use them. Then I felt compelled to finish the whole thing. Sometimes going with that sudden spark is the way to go. The other projects will still be there.

Sometimes a new project is like a full bladder. You just can't concentrate on nothing else until you have the problem solved. Go ahead. Enjoy your new project. Eventually your bladder will be empty and you'll be able to go back to the other projects. lol. Enjoy! ;^)

It obviously sparked your creative juices, and there’s nothing like creativity to get you excited and alive inside. It’s a whole different thing from copying someone’s block. Kaffe Fassett fabrics are just like jewels. I love what you doing.

These look great - if the blocks are square, I would love to see them with the rectangle in every other bock rotated 1/4 turn.s

Anything that begins with big florals is off to a great start! I love this palette :)

The colours you've put together are gorgeous! What an interesting block. I would love to see a layout where the blocks meet on what is now the bottom to make long skinny rectangles. As always, thanks for sharing!

Oooooh! That’s pretty! Great start. When the muse strikes it’s best to listen and not duck!

You have the best ideas for using up stash! I think it can be hard to work with those big prints, but I like how you pulled colors out of the flowers to add the borders.

Very fun to weave your design around the colors in the focal print. I always learn so much from you!
