Oh Scrap! : Some New Projects

I am always kind of sad when the end of October gets here.  That means that there are no more Rainbow Scrap Challenge colors until January.  I know many use the last two months of the year to finish their quilts, but I rarely follow that schedule and never seem to have enough blocks to finish up into quilts.  What else can I do except start some new projects!

I decided to dig through my scraps and see what inspires me.

Often, when I am looking for inspiration, I rarely choose fabrics I love.  I am usually trying to focus on those fabrics I know I will most likely not use in my regular scrap quilts.

Like these dinosaur prints above - I rarely use novelty scraps.  They find their way to me in scrap bags from others and they are not something I put in my regular scrap quilts.

So I decided to use them as the "seeds" for a small scrap quilt.

The same is true for these butterfly prints.

I think I will start cutting and see what evolves.  Once I get going, I will probably pull some more scraps in coordinating colors.

I like to have a few small quilts for kids on hand.  They are nice for gifts or to hand out to organizations that need them.  And I love that I get the entertainment of making them!

What inspires you to use your scraps?

*********************************************

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

I'm not a novelty fabric fan either. So if you can use and pull off a sweet childs quilt from your scraps, you have my support! If anyone can do it...it's you!

Yeah, I always feel lost when a new month starts and there's no RSC color to play with! Since my blocks usually spill over into multiple years, there's no finish either.
So you say the solution is to start some new projects? Awesome!
(Can't wait to see what you do with the dinosaurs!)

Usually finding a new block I'd like to try is what gets me started on something new! This coming year I'm going to work with crumb blocks again - so many little bits and pieces hanging around. Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge is also the centre of my sewing room. Once it is done, I feel like when I finish a good book. Darn, it's over! I think I am addicted to RSC, lol. Novelty fabric; have you ever done an "I Spy" quilt? That's where my novelty fabric ends up usually. I am slowly kitting a hexagon one. You got me curious with the dinosaurs fabric. What inspires me? You, RSC, magazines, Pinterest, a new block, two-scraps-that-happened-to-be-side-by-side-and-look-so-good-together-I-just-have-to-sew-something-with-them type of thing, my friends' clothing, and of course, a gifted bag of scraps. Enjoy! ;^)

Fabric inspires me most. Right now I am trying to not start a new project inspired by a novelty cat fabric found when cleaning out my mom’s stash which I inherited and the current block drive from covered in love. You never know what is going to inspire the next quilt!

Hi,
I usually buy novelty prints..I like the way they fit into a quilt I'm working on. I really like the butterfly fabric. It's really pretty. Have a great day!

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

What inspires me to use my scraps? A determination to make the most of what I have. And a bit of overwhelm-ment (surely it's not guilt) that I have such an enormous stash....I charge ahead with RSC every year, but now I have two years' worth of units that are starting to mutter about being made into something.

And here I am thinking it is time to add some novelty fabric as I make a lot of kid's quilts to give away. But, I'm holding off for a while. I've got at least three more quilts planned with fabric from the stash. It'll be fun to see what you come up with your novelties.

I do the same thing. Search the stash for inspiration, and use those prints I know won't go anywhere else. Can't wait to see what you do with yours!
