Elizabeth's Quilts

I am WAY behind in posting photos and getting out receipts for items we have received in the mail.  My porch has been a busy place in the last few weeks and I haven't done a great job of keeping up.

With our craft sale event and today's board meeting all complete, I am hoping I can get caught up this week.  Who knew a tiny quilt nonprofit could grow so quickly!

Elizabeth has been a donor of ours for quite some time.  She has also been a great mentor to me because she has been on a number of boards for similar nonprofits.  She recently sent us a bunch of completed quilts.  They are lovely so I have to share them.

This pineapple quilt is amazing!  I love the colors and was intrigued by the way she quilted it.

This quilt made me realize I don't think I have ever made a snowball block.  I love Elizabeth's scrappy version combining them with 9 patches.  After seeing this one, it is taking all my willpower not to start a similar quilt from some of our scraps.  I have a lot of blues and greens!

This is another block I have never made. The colors in this one feel so very fresh and clean.  I know I have this quilt already in the pile to go up to the hospital for hospice care.  I think the pattern just might bring someone good memories of past quilters.

Quilts are better when they have cheddar....that is my motto!  This quilt has a soft flannel back, so we are saving it to go to a kid's organization in the near future.

And the last one in today's show is this fun pink, brown and lime green beauty.  We hadn't sewn on the label yet because we couldn't decide which was the top.  I liked it with the brown X to the bottom.

Thanks so much Elizabeth for the quilts, the fabric and the batting!

Oh Scrap! : RWB String

Finally, the end to a crazy busy week. You can bet I will be spending Sunday napping to catch up on much needed sleep.

We had our craft sale Friday and Saturday.  The turn out wasn't great but we still sold quite a few items.  What didn't sell will be stored for future sales - we will definitely do something similar again.

I didn't want to miss an Oh Scrap!, so I am just sharing one of the scrappy quilts we finished this week.

Here is a fun Veteran string quilt made from a combination of blocks sent in by donors and some made by myself.  I decided to just add two horizontal strips of blue for a bit of interest - or maybe because I had these strips left over from something else and they needed to be used.

I think we still have plenty of finished RWB string blocks to make another quilt.  I need Veteran quilt s for a December delivery so I had better get on that!

Hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend.  I am looking forward to getting back to my regular sewing schedule!

Oh Scrap! : Flannel Windmills

In the recent newsletter, I shared my excitement over finally having a plan for how to deal with all the flannel scraps we have.  I have been slowly starting to cut and this weekend, I finished a few blocks.

I started with scraps that had pink and would be a good candidate for a you girl quilt.  I am cutting everything to 2.5" x 4.5" and giving myself the freedom to toss anything that I can't yield a piece that size.  Of course, as I was sewing these blocks, I remembered why I dislike sewing flannel but it will be worth it when Mt. Flannel is all stored in a tote.

I also shared I pulled out all the scrap quilts/projects I had started - I did already complete 3 of them.  I sewed and quilted a scrappy Christmas table runner for our craft show next weekend, I sewed up a flannel patriotic panel into a quilt top and I cut a brunch of patriotic scraps into some 2.5" strips for a project I will share soon.  I still have many projects to go but I sure like seeing the progress!

Time for you to share your scrappy sewing!

BTW - If you want to sign up for the newsletter, scroll down to the bottom and fill in your name and email.  It goes out monthly!
