National Jelly Roll Day is Coming Soon

Did you know that this Saturday is National Sew a Jelly Roll Day?

I have not sewn too many quilts using a Jelly Roll but I know it is a favorite pre-cut for many people.  The quilt above is from my Life is a Highway quilt pattern.

The Fat Quarter Shop is celebrating early with a five day sale on a number of their Jelly Rolls and other 2.5" Strip Sets.

And here is a link to a number of quilt patterns and videos from the FQS archives for the jellyroll precut.

I just thought you might like to know!

Oh Scrap! : RSC Blocks

I am really enjoying the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks I am currently working on.

This week I decided to make another zigzag block for September in black.
I can always find lots of scraps for these blocks!

As for my garden blocks, I knew the color blue was going to be a challenge.  Of course a row of four plump blueberries were made.  Blue is actually in the name of the fruit (and one of my garden favorites)!

I went out and wandered around my own gardens to see what else fell under the "blue" category and I decided a birdhouse needed to be on the quilt.  This is a giant block at 12 x 30" but I only had one bird in all my stash so I had to build the house to it's scale.

I have one more blue block to make but I am still in the pondering mode trying to figure out how to sew it.  I think I finally have an idea and I just need time to try it out.  Hopefully I will have it to share next week.

What have you been doing with your scraps?

Quilting is more fun than Housework

I also need to announce that the up coming weekend (September 13th through September 15th) I will be hosting this year's Fall Quilty Adoption event.  (Here is a link to the Spring event if you want to see what it is all about.)  I will be opening the linkup Thursday morning and it will run until the end of the day Saturday.  So that gives you a few days to dig through your sewing room to see if you have anything you would like to put up for adoption.

It is an easy way to cross something off your UFO list   :)

More Logs

There have been so many pretty log cabin blocks popping up in my blog feed, I thought I would share a photo of a log cabin variation that was recently sent to me by a student in one of my classes.

This quilt was made using my Spin! quilt pattern.  I went down to southern Oregon and taught a couple classes in mid-August and a week later, I received this photo of a finished top.
How is that for fast!
I really like the orange and yellow color combination!

I don't think I shared this photo of this pretty version either.  Cheryl used a rose print in her log cabins and then designed a trellis border to go around it.  So very creative!

And fairly recently, I quilted up this lavender and dark purple version for a client.
I always love to see these on my longarm frame!

If you are in the PNW and want me to come teach a class or two or share some of my quilts in a trunk show, feel free to contact me.  I still have spots open for 2019.

And if you have made a quilt using Spin! or any of my patterns, I would love to see it!

Drowning in Koolaid!

Did you see that Julie (Of JulieKQuilts) is hosting her Log Cabin Loonies again this year?  I follow her blog and I saw the announcement a few weeks ago but my sense of responsibility told me that I needed to work on the 24 UFOs I listed last month.

I have no business starting something new.

Then a week went by and I saw all the fun little log cabin blocks that were being made.

Still, I was able to hold out!

Another week went by and I held strong.....

And then this weekend, three things happened.

1) I unburied these woven plaids fat quarters I recently bought for the big sum of $6.
2) I sorted through my low volume scraps and grumbled over all the yellow/tan tones that were collecting up and in my way.
3) I made the mistake of looking at this weeks inspiring log cabin posts by so many fellow bloggers.

So a couple 8" blocks were made.  No big deal.
I need a leader/ender project anyway.....

But as you can see, my log cabin blocks became my main focus and the UFOs became the L/E.
Ooops...At least I was able to stay strong for a couple weeks!

Of course, now my concern is that Julie is hosting this event for quite a few weeks.
What happens when I finish this quilt?!?!?

Oh Scrap! : Blue

Happy long holiday weekend to all of you in the US.
September means Fall is coming and I can't wait!

September's Rainbow Scrap Challenge color is dark blue and black.  The first block I made this weekend was one of my zigzag blocks.  The finished block will measure 12".

I started this quilt in June so I only have only 4 blocks finished.  I was planning on making 12 blocks but I realize now that is not enough for a quilt!  So I will be completing 20 blocks.  I will probably make a second black block this month.  So this project should last me until the end of 2019.

I am looking forward to seeing what you are up to!
