Irish Chain Twist QAL - Twist on the Traditional

This week's assignment for Melissa's Irish Chain Twist Quilt-A-Long was a bit of chain sewing and then sub-cutting into units.  As I am going a bit more scrappy than the instructions, it probably took me more time to get everything sewn together.  But the assignment was easily achieved in an afternoon.  Yep, I am still keeping up!

Last week I finished up my Improv X blocks so this week we start to work on the patchwork blocks.  For these blocks, I am using up some purple 30"s prints.  I had just enough scrap fabric to squeak out enough units.

As a reminder, I am only making the baby quilt.  Here is the finished layout. I will be using 30"s prints in peach, lavender and green.  I am anxious to see how they work with the design!

Somehow I had missed the final layout before; very nice! I look forward to seeing how your color choices fill in, too.

I'm not doing a QAL this year, but am participating in two Bee Blocks exchanges. It's fun to make new blocks, and it will be fun to be on the receiving end when it's my month to be Queen Bee!

I've never joined a QAL (well, technically I should be following the FMQ over on QuiltShopGal's site, but I haven't managed any of the challenges yet!), but I'm enjoying watching your progress with this. :)

I'm only doing Finish Alongs this year so far, but I'm probably going to jump in on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge too even though it's now in its third month. I just found the perfect block for one of aunts who will be 75 in December.
