I have a very special finish to share today. It is not often I make a quilt just for myself. I tend to just make quilts...some I will keep but most I give away or sell. This one I fell in love with from the start!
I received these solids from Craftsy. I had contacted them to ask for a sample of their Boundless fabric line. I wanted to know what the quality was. I have to say, when I received them and saw their beautiful saturation, glowing colors and lovely feel, I was instantly inspired to make something special.
I had the idea to make a variation of a courthouse step block - using both the hot and cool colors in each block. From the beginning, these blocks made me smile!
I decided to also piece in both some light and dark chains, creating a secondary design across the quilt. You can see in this photo, the darks are both brown and black and the lights have a cream and tan color.
Placement of these colors within the chains creates some additional subtle designs.
The solids just really seem to glow!
When it came time to quilt it, I wanted to continue to add small subtle details. I really did not want to over quilt it....this one really is about color!
So eight colors of threads were used.
Cream and black threads were used diagonally through the chains. Then I quilted a vertical rectangle in a dark thread, a horizontal rectangle in a light thread and then a square in a medium tone. Lots of thread changes!
I am really pleased with the simple textures in the quilting - which still allows for the colors to come through.
The quilt is a nice lap size - about 56" x 70". Another one for my personal collection...which seems to have grown a lot this year!
If you are curious about what I used on the backing, I pulled a blue print fabric I had in my stash. Even on quilts made from solids, I always prefer a print backing.
I don't often make quilts in just solids but I really enjoyed this process.
I think you will be seeing more from me in the future!

With Thanksgiving over, it is time to take advantage of those Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Both Craftsy and Accuquilt have some great deals going on.
Accuquilt has almost ALL of their fabric cutters and dies on sale. It is a great time to add a few dies to your collection or buy yourself a little holiday gift. I love my Studio System!
Every Craftsy class is on sale for $17.99! That is the lowest price I have seen.
Craftsy has their boundless solids on sale right now. They not only have their pre-cuts marked down but you can also buy yardage. Perfect backgrounds to have on hand for those scrappy quilts.
Another great deal I saw was on this fat quarter bundle of Robert Kaufman Quilter's linen prints. I really like these prints for when a solid just seems a bit too "flat" for a project. I wish they had yardage!

This is a fantastic finish! I love that you used a "geometrical" quilting pattern with it.
That quilt is so gorgeous it made my eyes tear up - I am not kidding! Will you be publishing the pattern, including your quilting? Please say yes.
I love these wonderful saturated colours in your quilt, the courthouse steps pattern really shows them off beautifully. Love your quilting too!
Beautiful quilt! All those little details DO add up.

I've never been a big fan of solids, but this quilt changes my mind - gorgeous! You've made those lovely colors glow!
A beautiful quilt! This is one very clever pattern, I love how you've alternated the black & light chains!
Your quilt is Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! You did AWESOME job!!! :)
Beautiful! I rarely use solids -- more of a tonals and blenders fan -- but this absolutely shines! Thanks for sharing!
I love your bright colours
Cynthia, this is just stunning!! I don't blame you at all for keeping this one. You knocked it out of the park!! Love it, love it, love it :)
This quilt is sooooo gorgeoous!
Wow! You weren't kidding when you said they glow. Those colors literally leap off the screen at me! And the design shows them off so well. You really put a lot of thought into all the details and the results really show that. SCRUMPTIOUS!!
Love how bright and cheerful this quilt is. So tempted to go to Craftsy and order a pack of fabric, but....no, no, no!
I so love what you've done with this quilt. The colors are right up my alley -- bright and loud!! Your quilting looks perfect for all the color too. You must be a very patient person. Not sure I would have had the patience to make so many thread changes. They look great.
It just glows! Beautiful finish!
I really, really love that quilt. Nicely done.
WOWZA! What a beautiful finish.
Absolutely perfect placement of colors, I think I would been overwhelmed figuring out how to place them just right!
Great looking quilt and your very careful quilting surely does enhance rather than detract form the bright colors!
Stunning! Now I need (want) Boundless fabrics
Congratulations on a finish just for you. It is lovely!
This is a lovely finish - congrats :)

Simply beautiful! You can cozy up to that quilt this winter :)
Somehow I missed this post, probably because of our Thanksgiving travel, but I'm so glad I found it today! What an amazing quilt! It really does glow! You have such a way with color - I think I've said that before. Lol! I have never made a quilt with all solids, but I keep wanting to try one. I'll have to try some Boundless solids, now, for sure!
That is a super fantastic quilt. I really like it lots. Well done!
Yep - your decisions for quilting it were just perfect!!! Enjoy keeping it and staring every day at the lovely quilt!!!

Cynthia, I love this quilt! The colors are wonderful, but I especially like how you chose to quilt it. Lovely!
This quilt is absolutely stunning! Using the brown and black and then the cream and tan was a brilliant decision. So glad you are keeping this one for yourself.
