Neutral Strings

When neutrals were chosen for this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge color, I initially thought I would take this month off and work on some other projects.  I also wanted to spend some time organizing my sewing room.  Well, we all know where this is going...

As I was digging through some bags of scraps, I came across some fabrics that were gifted to me.  The entire bag was filled with leftover fabrics in tans, grays and creams.

I decided to chop up the pieces into strings and create some slabs that were about 16 x 17".  I made a total of 12 - using up almost all of the fabric.

This afternoon. I squared them up to 16.5" wide and trimmed each slab into two 7.5" wide strips.  My plan is to sash them somehow so I will probably play with them more this weekend.

This is going to be a very subtle quilt when it is all finished.  Definitely not my usual color choices but it will still be fun to see how it evolves.

Have a great weekend Everyone!

Simple but effective use of fabric. Looking forward to seeing this one evolve into a quilt top.

I have been working with neutrals a lot lately adding them to my quilts - I like to use a mixture for backgrounds. I'm sure you will come up with a good use for them

Isn't it funny how the color of the month starts to work on your brain? I'm not playing along with RSC at all, and yet I'm drawn to the color I see on everyone else's blogs. Lots of great neutral projects out there, and yours looks like it will be so soft and pretty!

What a great collection of neutrals. I love where this one is going. It can be fun to play outside your usual area of comfort. Best of all, you put those gifted scraps to great use!

Subtle but great! I think it's nice to work with colors you might not normally. Its going to be beautiful when you get the blocks together. Gray is my normal go to background color of choice!

Take a look at the recent quilt along from Crazy Mom Quilts. I think her pattern called for rectangular slabs of string blocks.

This looks promising! I love how you make your blocks bigger - gives you a larger quilt faster. I'm interested to see the sashing and setting you choose!

Lovely! I'm finding something very appealing about the 'tone-it-down" look just lately, look forward to seeing where you end up!

You are always up for a,challenge, it seems. You probably would have done it with or without the fabrics. It just gave you a reason to use them now. What could be better? Can't wait to see how your challenge to yourself turns out. Have a fun week!

I think they're beautiful as they are, but I don't see anything wrong with adding a little pop of color. I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up with.
