Today I am so excited to be able to share a new project with you that I started a few months ago. It is made using the Double Nine Patch quilt pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. This pattern is being featured today as part of their Classic and Vintage Quilt Along.
The Fat Quarter Shop made their lovely quilt in white and red. They used the Project Red fabric collection by Sweetwater. Two color quilts are just so classis!
I originally thought I would use some stashed blue fabrics but when I went to pull my fabric, I was drawn to my stack of solids. I soon pulled some warm golds, rose pinks, browns and olive greens. Because the pattern has you sewing strips, you can make a stack of blocks in no time.
Are these not adorable?!
Here is one of my finished blocks. I almost didn't go with the black centers but I am now so glad I did. I want my quilt to have a bit more contemporary look even though this is a very classis block.
This is a quilt I have been wanting to make for a LONG time...
...because I have this amazing family quilt from a similar pattern. It is all hand pieced (and quilted) and each square finishes at 1/2" - Tiny! So I have always wanted to make the same quilt but from my generation.
Both will reside in my quilt collection :)

If you want to make one of these quilts for your own family collection, you can find the pattern here. The Fat Quarter Shop also have kits available if you just want yours in the red and white. This is a great pattern for beginners as the instructions are clear and there are lots of great diagrams.

Your blocks are so fun and happy! You'll have that whipped up in to time.
love a nine patch!
How fun that you will have both a vintage and modern version of the same quilt! I really like your blocks done in solids. I'll have to go check out the other quilts from this pattern.
Those blocks are adorable! I think you are right about that black center square...it works very well!
How fun! Thanks for sharing!
I've been wanting to make a Double 9-Patch quilt for a LONG time. LOVE them!! One of these days I'll get around to it. In the meantime, I will enjoy watching your project grow.
How fun it will be to have both of these quilts in your collection! Love your colors and the black pips
Lovely bright blocks you're putting together, I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished up!
How fun to make a quilt in the same pattern as a family heirloom. Enjoy the stitching. I hope you'll show off both again when you finish your modern version.
