Another Log Cabin Finish

I have finished my second log cabin quilt made from some homespun fabrics I picked up months ago.  This time I used the fabrics in rusty red and tans.

My last log cabin finish was made with a traditional log cabin block.  This time, I went with a courthouse steps variation.

I wanted the look of a vertical strand of beads so I actually made my blocks a rectangular shape and left off the top and bottom strip.

This small change gave the quilt a whole new look.
If I had added those last two strips, the columns would have touched.

I recently picked up this wonderful plaid for the backing.  It is hard to see but for the quilting I went with vertical squiggly lines and some opposing loops for the columns of plaids.

So now I have gotten log cabins out of my system and I am ready to move on.  The rest of the plaids went into my scraps bins so you will start to see them in future scrap quilts.  I enjoyed my time spent making log cabin blocks.  They are fast and easy to sew....my kind of sewing!

A big thanks to Julie for hosting the Log Cabin Loonies event which inspired my quilts.
It has been such fun to see all the log cabin variations!

I saw Christmas ornaments when I first looked at your quilt. I know that probably wasn't your intent, but it's all in the eye of the beholder. At any rate, It's a great quilt! Looking forward to see what you'll be working on next!

I love how you had an idea and made it happen! The colors are beautiful in this quilt, Cyndy. Like Vicki, I've never made a Courthouse Steps block, and now it's on my list!
