After completing my blue/brown log cabin quilt, I decided to get out another stack of plaid homespuns and make a second quilt.
These plaids were more of the fabrics I picked up while presenting a trunk show to a quilt guild. Some were odd shaped cuts but most were fat quarter size - and the price was right!.
This time I decided to go with a courthouse steps version of a log cabin. I used the Faded Chambray Wide backing I picked up from Connecting Threads for the neutral areas and also decided to not make my blocks square. (I did not add the last plaid strips)
My blocks will measure 8 x 10 finished.
I wanted my blocks to have a "stacked" look. If I had added the final plaid logs, the stacks would have been touching each other. I decided I liked the separation and I didn't want to have to deal with sashing later to get the same look.
I think I will make about thirty blocks. That will give me a quilt about 50 x 64.
Once this quilt is finished, I should be done with log cabin blocks for a bit and ready to move on to something else.
(Well, except the ongoing quarter logs RSC blocks....I keep forgetting about those!)

love your plaids this will make a great quilt
Great choice to leave off the final plaid logs to avoid sashing. I look forward to seeing how this top and quilt comes together!
Love those colors!
OK you need to stop this-enticing me into wanting to make yet another of your designs, LOL. A friend just recently gave me a little pile of homespuns to stick with mine and now you got me itchin'!! What size strips did you cut?
Another good idea for logs!
I am going to have to "re-think what I think of plaids" after seeing your last quilt and now this one in the making. Lovely work as always.
A great quilt. You are on a roll with these already.
Love the plaids. So pretty
This is going to make a pretty Quilt! I can’t wait to see it finished.
I really like the reds and browns together in this one! And it's going to be fun to see how the Courthouse Steps blocks come together. Have fun!
Very nice job on your courthouse steps. Good color combination.
Very smart to get this look without sashing!
i am liking how this one is going!
You got a great start with the new plaids. Happy stitching on those this week.
Plaids speak of fall to me. I love these blocks, Cynthia.
