I recently had the opportunity to participate in another of the Fat Quarter Shop's Shortcut Quilt Series. I love these simple patterns that use precuts so I joined in immediately!
In a previous post, I shared this photo showing my fabric choices and the Creative Grids ruler needed for this project. This pattern uses Jolly Bars, a Fat Quarter Shop exclusive.
I chose the Hop, Skip and a Jump! collection by American Jane. I have always loved the vintage feel of this Moda designer.
Today I can finally show my finished quilt. The Jolly Bar precut was the perfect size to make each block. I am really pleased with how it turned out.
I have a few other specialty rulers that make a HRT (half rectangular triangle), but I have to say I really thought this one by Creative Grids was a lot easier than most. Plus, many of you know I like big blocks and the size of this ruler allows a bigger block with ease. I love that!
I used a white Kona for the background. It worked perfectly with this collection. The quilt just need a simple swirl quilting to finish it up.
I was also able to pick up this perfect backing in the clearance section when I ordered the Jolly Bar and ruler for the project.
This little shortcut quilt is cute, cute, cute!
The free pattern (and helpful video) can be found over on the Jolly Jabber blog if you want to make one of your own!
Finished size = 48" x 48".
Finished size = 48" x 48".
This was the first time I have used a 5" x 10" Jolly Bar. It is a great size and I am sure I will be using one again in the future.

nice pattern and finished quilt...kaffe fassett calls them pennants....either way a winner!
I really need to move my rulers to were I can see them - I tend to forget what I have and I do have that ruler
Love! Because of your previous post on the HRT ruler...I bought one too! I haven't used it yet and after seeing this quilt...I must get off my lazy you know what and start making HRT's too!
What a fun finish! I have a stack of those Jolly Bars from one designer that I thought would be fun to put together. This might just be the ticket. It would make a good sized quilt rather quickly.
This is such a fun and happy fabric line! Looks great in this pattern. :D
I love the JB that you chose to use. It's been fun seeing all the different versions!
Your quilt turned out so happy! Nice job!
I really like that quilt and the pattern. I’ll have to watch for that ruler!
Does the ruler cut the two halves of the HRT so they piece together perfectly? I want to try HRT.
Fun and lively quilt! I like the pattern a lot, and it would also work well with layer cake squares cut in half. Too bad my TriRecs ruler only goes up to 6.5" instead of 8.5". When in doubt, buy the bigger ruler!
I've enjoyed seeing all the different versions of this quilt today! Yours is so pretty with the red fabrics in it. I've never used a Jolly Bar or made HRTs, but I definitely would like to try both!
This looks an interesting pattern. I ordered a pack of Voysey fabric from Fat Quarter Shop and they had a paper pattern to purchase along with the fabric, it was using the half rectangular triangle, very effective.
Love the pattern and I already have the special ruler which I have not yet used. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice! your fabrics are really cool!
