I used to think it was weird to gift a quilting friend with a quilt - but then I received one myself and I realized it was kind of special to have a gift made just for you!
My dear friend is very much a modern / improv quilter. So I thought it would be fun to make her a wall hanging for her new sewing room. Both of us love purple so I started there and added in some gold and a bit of teal.
I used the Crosscut Blocks tutorial by Debbie over at A Quilter's Table.
This was a quilt along on Instagram quite a while back but I didn't participate then.
I wanted very dense quilting so I used a purple thread and echoed some lines about a quarter inch apart. around the edges. In the center, I opened up the space between to the lines to about a half inch.
She must be a very special friend because I took the time to sew in some corners along the top to use a sleeve if she wants to. I just don't do that for everybody!
So Happy Birthday my friend! I cherish our friendship and love how you inspire me to get out of my comfort zone with color and new techniques.
And my readers....How about you - do you gift quilts to fellow quilty friends?

And there's the pattern for my daughter's first big bed quilt. Thank you so much for the inspiration and the pattern links.
So far I've only gifted a mug rug to a quilty friend.
That's so pretty! I like the gold cross pieces with the purple. I think it's a wonderful gift for a quilty friend! I did make a quilted wall-hanging for a quilty friend here, for her 60th birthday - and she actually has it hanging on the wall! :)
quilting for other quilters is the best because they are the only ones who truly understand everything you did to put that quilt together. Besides makers seldom make things for ourselves, we're always making for others. I would really appreciate someone making me a gift.
And it looks lovely on my wall..... purple.... improv and made by Cyndy..... the best of all...a big hug of appreciation....j
another great quilt! you are so inspiring...thank you for all the quilting and blogging you do for sharing you ideas! I love purple but its one of the fewest colors of my stash. Go figure...
You have such a magical way with colors! You make me like purple and I am not a purple person. I would love to try that technique, thanks for the tutorial link. Great share!
AWESOME gift!! I make all sorts of quilty gifts for me beemates. They are quite well received.
What a wonderful gift! So pretty!
I love this! The colors are just WOW! I made a wall hanging using Debbie's tutorial and I like it, but yours is SO. MUCH. BETTER. Good job!!
p.s. Can I be your friend?
Love those purples! And you must have been working on it during September, purple month for RSC. I would love to give a special quilty friend a quilt, but I keep thinking that it needs to be really, really perfect because another quilter will surely see any flaws? Maybe that's silly, though!
This is wonderful! Perfect gift to give to a quilter. The blends of purple are fabulous!
Wow! I love it! I remember that quilt along! It was before I did IG, but pictures kept popping up all over blogland. What a perfectly delightful birthday gift. I’ll bet she was over the moon to receive it. I’ve been gifted two quilts now and they are both precious to me. I don’t keep any of my quilts for myself!
Thanks for the push! I have blocks pieced for a CrossCut quilt..they need to be trimmed, sewn together and recut. Its the beginning of a series for me- my first series. I just cannot NOT see quilts in my two fav colors -royal blue and lime green!
I think besides a swap - I have not. Never even thought about it so thanks for the brain food :) And great quilt and gift. I love the technique and one day... Enjoy your finish! xo Melanie

This is really pretty! Yes, I've given quilts to quilty friends. It does feel a little odd but I also know that quilters appreciate the effort that has gone into something hand made.
Oh I love it! And!! I have never thought of it - as I figured they quilt... what if they don't like mine - but now... I want to!!
I made one for a friend when she was going through a rough time, a nice lap/nap quilt. She loves it!
Any quilter would be delighted to receive a gift like that! It's perfect.
