A Decision and some Progress

A few weeks ago, I asked for some ideas on how to use some fabric I had in my stash to make a donation quilt.  You guys definitely came through and gave me a lot to think about!

Here were a few of the pieces I had on hand.  There were lots of designs suggested but some required me to go buy more fabric and that just wasn't part of the plan.

I really needed a design that would use the background fabric to its best yield and had pieces large enough to show off the dog prints I wanted to use.  I was originally thinking about using circles but based on some suggestions, I was inspired to make large HSTs.

It is hard to see but I am using two colors of the same background fabrics - a cream and a tan.

I have started to put the pieces up on the design wall.  I am alternating the cream and the tan and really loving the effect it gives to the design.

As I finish the HSTs, I am finding I have to spend quite a bit of time setting them into the design because a number of the fabrics are directional so they will only fit into a certain quadrant of the quilt.

Oh Well, you know I love a good challenge!

I hope to share a finish soon. I am just waiting for my backing fabric to arrive from Connecting Threads (Yep, I took advantage of their last sale and ordered a fun stripe for this one.).
