If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, you know I love to work on multiple projects at a time. When I sit down to sew, it is not uncommon for me to be sewing blocks for two or three quilts in one sitting. So as you can imagine, my sewing space can get a bit messy.
Every once in a while, I like to take some time and put away all the supplies for projects that are finished so I have some space to work.
But whenever I clean, touching all that fabric usually results in my starting a project. As I was putting some purple scraps away, I decided I needed to turn some of the strips into some log cabin blocks. These blocks are made with 2.5 and 1.5" wide strips. So the finished block will measure 11". These four blocks will make a giant 22" circle!
It is a little hard to see my plan but I drafted up this design of colored circles months ago. I decided to get started on it today!
Purple is my favorite color so I decided to use it to make the biggest circle. I will probably make some of the smaller filler blocks in purple too but I will leave that for a later day.
I started one more quilt that I will share on Sunday.
Does cleaning inspire your creativity? Or are you able to show constraint :)

I never manage to finish cleaning because I find fun things to work on instead!
cleaning space does help creativity I think - it is just that sometimes it helps too much LOL I find too many things to start :)
Love those log cabin circles--uh oh another one to put on my list...
so pretty...
After I clean up, it takes me a couple days before I can even do any sewing--it's like I am afraid to mess up the place;)))

When I'm cleaning up I always find fabric I forgot. Just this week it led to the start of a new project!
I can get sidetracked by anything.... especially a sewing room cleanup.
YES, absolutely! Oh, I remember where I bought this piece ... Wouldn't it look so nice paired with that piece ... Wonder what would happen if ... I'll just do a sample block ... You obviously know how it goes!
I have no constraint. But I do have way too many projects on the go. I love your log cabin circles!
i always have several projects in the works....very nice block!
Cleaning always seems to result in discovering some UFO that has been forgotten or abandoned! Lol! It’s amazing to see the things archeology can unearth!
Those four blocks will make a 22' circle?? Wow!! That quilt is going to be SEW much fun. LOVE that design plan!
I really love your sketched new quilt. Can't wait to see more of it come to life. Cleaning my sewing room is dangerous as it always turns into an adventure. I never know what I will rediscover and where it will take me. I can never "just" clean. ;^)
I am in good company! I'm cleaning my space and going down more rabbit holes...all the scraps from previous quilts are my weakness right now.
Purple is my favorite color too so I love your new project! I am very interested in how your design works out. I think I get more inspiration and new projects to start from reading blogs like yours!! (Not a bad thing!)
That looks like a neat design! I like the way you have some blocks that make the full circle, and others are just partial. I'm not sure I ever actually "clean up," lol! Just find bits of fabric and think, "Now what could I do with these?" :)
And now you know why I am not a big fan of cleaning. It is extremely distracting :-D
However I am a big fan of all your blocks - whether they were intentional or distraction :-) Hope you are staying safe. Hugs from afar!!!
I've been looking carefully at your purple blocks to see how you can incorporate the different width strips. And you can, such a clever idea! The blocks look great, thanks for sharing.
Oh yes, me too, I get sidetracked. I have about 6 quilts back from the quilter awaiting binding but I just HAD to start a baby quilt to donate from some scraps I was putting away. I hate that I do this but, oh well, not going to change at this age!
Pretty purple circles! Cleaning is definitely a great way to get back in touch with my fabric and to generate new ideas. Constraint is overrated :)
Love the purple!!! Always wanted to make a purple quilt -this may be the ONE!!!! My purple stash is not that great...oh well, maybe some shopping is in order!!!! Support the local economy and all that, right?
This is looking interesting, I'm a huge fan of purple and can't wait to see the finished quilt top.
My last deep craft room cleaning took two days and netted a list of more than 40 projects I had in progress. I ended up joining WOOFA to try and reduce that number. =)
can you point me in the direction of a pattern I could purchase? thx.
