Pretty Positivity

When I start a new scrap quilt, I never quite know how quickly they are going to progress.  A lot depends on the pattern and the availability of the appropriate scraps.

Even I am surprised at how quickly I finished my Positivity quilt!

I decided to go with gray, orange and turquoise for this quilt.  I had a large chunk of a gray that was gifted to me by one of my clients.  It was leftover from a backing.  When I get those generous gifts, I try and pay it forward and use those in my donation quilts.

The other scraps were all 2.5" strips and my scrap bins were full of them!

The other reason this quilt was finished so quickly was the block was super easy to chain piece.  Once I had everything cut, I could easily sew up a big stack of blocks in an afternoon.

I had the perfect orange and blue plaid fabric for the backing.  I recently bought it from Connecting Threads.  They still have it in stock - and at a great price too!

If you are not familiar with the Positivity Quilt Along, you can read more information about it on Sew Pretti's blog.  She has generously designed the block pattern and has provided a TON of information on making the block and a quilt.

I am a bit of an over achiever because the QAL goes on through September I believe.  But the blocks went together so quickly and the fabric all came out of the scrap bins so the quilt was finished before I knew it!

Now I can get this one sent off to Bernie over at Needle and Foot who is taking all of these donation quilts for Mercyful Quilts.  It feels good to turn a bunch of leftovers into a quilt that will bring comfort during a difficult time.

I had been second-guessing my decision to make the Positivity blocks with a mix of scrappy backgrounds, but now that I see yours, I know exactly why I chose that style. It is beautiful, Cyndy! Such a great color combination, too - I'm going to have to remember that - gray, turquoise, and orange. I'm sure this will be a well-loved quilt that brings lots of comfort!

Wow! That orange/red and turquoise on the gray background color combination zings wonderfully! You are such a generous and kind soul! You continue to be an inspiration to me to plug along stitching up my scraps and to have fun as I go!

Looks great! I know what you mean about each quilt having its own timeline. I'm already excited to see how many quilts Bernie is able to collect due to this lovely QAL.

Oh yes, Miss Cynthia. You are an over-achiever and a show-off :-D But please do not change. We need the likes of you for inspiration and goading from time to time. I am loving the mature and muted look of grays and turquoise, with orange bringing the right amount of pop. I am quilting my Positivity quilt this weekend, so I am not too far behind. Someone's gotta keep up with you :-p

My! Oh my! Look at you go! I am steadily sewing blocks together in spite of the fact that they truly are easy to chain piece and get together. Love how cheerful your blocks look. The colors are fabulous!
