I have been continuing to make placemats for my yearlong project. I have been busily sewing turquoise crumbs this month. But I also pulled a bunch of orphan blocks to turn into some too.
I had a bunch of gray and red strip sets to make these large checkerboards.
A lone star block that made for a quick finish.
Some super old majestic mountain blocks that were perfect for this project. These orphaned blocks would probably never find another home.
And then some pink flower blocks.
I think there are two more made from orphan blocks but they are lost in a pile of batting pieces. Once they are found, I will get them quilted up and bound too.
I added these eight to the growing stack. I think this will bring the total up to 35. I am anticipating about 8 turquoise ones for this month's RSC. If I keep at this pace, by the end of the year, the stack is going to be taller than me!

I'm sure you've said before, but what are the dimensions of your placemats?
These are all looking very nice! The pink flower blocks made a couple of fun placemats.
That's quite a delicious looking pile of placemats you have there! They are definitely perfect for using up orphan blocks, and I like how you've quilted them, too. Enjoy your sew day today!
I love seeing the stack grow and the beautiful color banding of the binding edges!
You keep the pedal to the metal with the placemat challenge. They look great. So many blocks finally got a job! Awesome! ;^)
Well those orphan blocks look fabulous in the placemats. Well done. Have a wonderful weekend and happy quilting.
I think I should take a page from your book and make placemats. I don't know what I would do with so many, DH says he doesn't like placemats. I could use them as gifts or maybe find a charity that would take them. I need to use up my stash! It is causing me anxiety!
Fabulous additions to your placemat stack, Cynthia!!
I like your idea of turning your orphan blocks into placemats. They look great.
What a happy stack of placemats!!!
Pretty new placemats added to the pile.Love them all.
No one would ever know you hadn't planned these placements. Great use of orphan blocks and small pieces of batting. I've forgotten if you have a specific destination for these placemats.

Do I remember correctly that these placemats are going to an organization like Meals On Wheels? They will certainly be enjoyed!
Lovely placemats! I want to make some. Your big stack is very impressive!
