More Play with Leftover Stripsets

I continue to work on making some baby quilts for one of my quilt buyers.

She plans on donating them so I want to keep the costs down as much as possible.

I thought I would dig through my orphan blocks and pull a few more leftover strip sets.  The ones I used on these blocks were actually really odd shaped (sorry, no photos).  They were improv pieced and a circle was cut from them.  I decided I could still make them work by cutting away the curvy parts and ending up with a triangle.  I found some older stash pieces and sewed the corners to a 9" square of fabric.

I spent the evening playing with layouts.

I decided I like this one the best.

(sorry about the nighttime photos - it looks far better in person!)

Another way I save money on my quilting is to buy backing fabrics when I see a great sale.  This week, Connecting Threads is having on of their 20% sitewide sales.  Use the promocode LOVE2QUILT and get an additional 20% off your cart.  I stocked up on 4 yard cuts out of their sale section for future scrap quilts.  As soon as my box arrives, I will share what I bought.

That's a great idea for using up those strip sets! Pretty colors, too. I should remember to start with a square that's at least 9 inches - it gives you morelength and width without a lot more piecing!
