A Start from the Stash

Even though 2022 is the year I am focusing on my UFO list, it is still important that I make a few quilts from my stash.  I have a lot of fabrics I need to use before I leave this life!

I decided to play with some of my Kaffe Fassett stash.  I used my Hex N More Ruler to cut a bunch of 8.5" Hexagons and some 4.5" triangles.  I think this is my favorite specialty ruler of all time.

The pieces will fit together like this.  Some of the hexagons will have the same color triangles all the way around to create some stars.  The rest will just end up with whatever colors fall into place.

I will also need some half hexies for the side edges to I was able to use up some of the larger scraps.

I need an empty design wall to lay all the pieces out before I start sewing.  And right now, all my walls are full of projects I am currently working on.  I am excited to get started on this so maybe that will give me the incentive to finish something up!

Kaffe Fassett florals are always amazing.  The Fat Quarter Shop currently has a large selection of yardage and precuts.

Pretty KF fabrics in your stash!! I am trying to use up my batiks...I find it difficult to pair them with other fabrics except in small bits here and there...I do like them, though they are hard to hand sew through.....

I love that ruler too, and Kaffe. This will be such a beautiful quilt when done. Thanks for sharing it on Wednesday Wait Loss. It's been awhile and we've missed you! Welcome back.

That looks like a fun, colorful project! I have some small Kaffe hexies given to me by my daughter - I think I might need to try this with them!

This is going to be beautiful! I did a twin sized I Spy quilt for a grandson using 2" hexies and triangles. The big pieces are perfect for a big print. Looking forward to see the finished quilt.

Oh, yummy! I think I'm going to love this. I also think I have that ruler but have never used it (maybe because I can't figure it out?) Well, I do have a hexie quilt in progress in rose themed prints and I used a template to cut the hexies. Haven't cut the triangles yet.

I've only made hexies using EPP. I do have the Hex 'n more ruler and used the Sidekick ruler for one of the Jaybird patterns for a baby quilt. How do you deal with all the bias edges when pieces these blocks? Do you starch them first?

"I have a lot of fabrics I need to use before I leave this life!" Thanks for the laugh! : )

I agree: The Hex N More ruler is one of the few specialty rulers I love. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this colorful project!
