Some Quilty Love

Today I am sharing a quilt that I worked on start to finish - no help from anyone!

This quilt all started with an overflowing low volume scrap bin.  It was full of rather loud low volume prints.  So I decided to come up with a quilt plan that would use a lot of them up.

So I made a bunch of 9 patches out of 3.5" squares.

Then I made a big 18" heart block from some red scraps and floated it in all those nine patches.

I found a red and white backing fabric that I picked up at Connecting Threads and I bound it with a red and white rickrack print.

I really love how this quilt turned out.  It measures 54 x 63" and looks so much better than it does in these photos.  In fact, I am already working on a second one made with cream based low volumes with a pink heart.  I thought these would make great Compassion quilts so it has already been added to the growing pile.  I am going to have to make another delivery to the hospital later this month!

I love your description of the "rather loud" low volume prints. I enjoy using a low volume scrappy background, but sometimes the loud prints are distracting. You have figured out a perfect way to use them! The quilt is fabulous, thanks for the inspiration!

Oh my goodness, I just love this quilt! I have been drawn to the low volume 9 patches since you started sharing them, and the pretty heart, along with the backing and binding just make such a beautiful combination. This is a lovely finish, Cyndy - you're inspiring me!

Oh, I love how that turned out. Might even be fun to make with colored background and loud low volume heart. Hmmm...

That's gorgeous! Yes, I can envision one with the pink and cream-based low volume fabrics, too. How cool!

That is absolutely lovely! I'm going to have to try to remember this idea because it's perfect for a comfort quilt. You could submit this one to a magazine.

WOW, a plethora of neutrals! That is something I have to search for, and purchase more often than others. When I first began purchasing fabrics for quilts it seemed that most were medium intensity fabrics.
