When I decided to join the Sew Kitschy block of the month with Kristy over at Quiet Play, I did it with a lot of hesitation. I have not had very good experiences in the past with paper piecing and was worried this project would quickly become a chore and languish in some drawer.
I am so happy to say I finished the first block! Granted, it was a pretty easy block but it has proven to me that paper piecing really isn't painful and it can be accomplished with minimal stress! I was at first completely stumped how to get started and I did have to get the seam ripper out quite a few times but I am so proud of the finished block.
Now I find myself impatiently awaiting the next pattern....
Kristy, you have another convert on your hands!
I'm going to be sharing this with Kristy at Quiet Play, Anything Goes Mondays at Stitch by Stitch, and Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times. Hope you take some time to visit these blogs and see what others are working on.

Oh, I am so proud of you. I did not like the way mine turned out, so am having to do it again. It was my FIRST attempt at paper piecing and it was so confusing. Maybe if I had taken the next step and added the backing like yours, it would have been ok. Yours is precious and your material adorable. genie
So cute I love the orange and blue and that background is perfect. :)
Love your fabric choices
I agree with the other ladies, you've chosen a good set of fabrics. I like the strippy border around the pieces elements, it really brings it all together and the background fabric is perfect. Well done!
Your block is adorable!I love paper piecing :)
I agree with everyone, your fabrics are yummy, Im hanging out for the next one as well, if it helps I find using the add a quarter ruler is a great help as well as a solid postcard, which I use to fold back on the sewing lines, but I guess you already use and know about it but just thought Id add it to the experience :)
Lovely fabrics! I'm so glad you decided to give paper piecing another try! It does take a bit of practice but it's a good technique to have!
One day I will try paper piecing - I'll just watch you first, lol! Your block turned out well - no need to hide it away in that drawer.
love your fabric choices.
I love the fabrics you've put together in this - I'm so glad you enjoyed making it.
I participated in Kristy's 2013 BoM and I loved it, especially my finished wall-hanging! Yours looks like it will be fun!
Yay!! It's fab!
Your colour combo is great! I choose black and white, very boring...
I so remember how tricky it is to get the first pieces right on your first block then once you get your head around it you're away! Great block :D
Love it! Glad to hear you enjoyed the experience!
Good for you! Paper piecing for me can be headwrecking but when it works and all those lines are so crisp and pointy it's worth it!
You have got it down! Looks so cute.
woot!! I made a tiny paper piecing project the other day. I had put it off forever, but it turns out it was pretty easy and fun. I just have to remember to reverse the patterns - My brain just won't accept "sew through the front of the paper"!
Yeah! You did it! And perfectly as well!
I hope you will enjoy the other blocks too!

Paper piecing totally scared me before I tried it. Then it took a couple of tries putting block pieces together, then it was like a light went on. I thought oh my gosh, this is so great! You see on the line, line up things in the middle and voila! Perfect piecing. Now I love it. I'm looking forwards to next months block as well.
You'll love paper piecing more and more as you gain experience. This block is sooooooooo fun and your fabric choices are perfect. I like the back ground fabric. Happy Quilting!
Your block is so pretty and fun! Love those fabrics!
Watch out... paper piecing is addicting! Kristy is my prime enabler!! :)
