Just in the Nick of Time

 Whew!

Look what I just finished with a day to spare!

Yes, I just put the last few stitches on the binding one day before I need this banner for my booth at the Westside Quilter's Quilt show.

The paper-pieced letters are by Quiet Play.  

They are the Geometric Upper Case and you can find the pattern here.

The letters were all made using solid-colored scraps.  I am pretty pleased with how it turned out but it certainly isn't perfect.

On the back, I used a soda can print a friend gave me.  (She actually gave it to me for the backs of a few placemats but it worked so perfectly here I couldn't resist.)  For the binding, I found the perfect striped fabric in my stash.

It certainly is colorful!

Every time I make a paper-pieced project, I swear it the last one I will ever do.  

This banner was no exception! 

I am so pleased I got it done in time!

Connecting Threads just got in the Woolies Flannel.  Boy are they pretty!

They have designed some lovely quilts using them.  And the kits for those designs are available.

Oh Scrap! : More Block Progress

 Wildfire smoke has been so bad in my area that it is difficult to be outside much. 

So that means I have been inside sewing a bit.

Hurray, I finished the last two letters I need for my quilt show booth banner.  Which is good because I am the featured quilter at the Westside Quilters Guild show in Hillsboro Oregon the first weekend in October.  If you are in the area, I hope you stop in.  I will be giving free talks on scrap management each morning.  You can read more about it on their website.

I also finished the last eight Bloom blocks I need for my Scrap Mixology quilt.  

I put them up on the design wall to finish out the layout I am making.  (Yes, this layout is in my Bloom Scrap Mixology pattern.)  This is another project I can start sewing together.  

I should have lots of finishes to share soon.

I did battle the smoke and the heat to finally hang a barn quilt made by a friend on my newly painted shed. (Please ignore the dirty windows and the piled-up wood.  It is on my list to deal with.)

Definitely says "a quilter lives here!"

Oh Scrap! : Another Very Productive Day

 On Saturday, I spent the day sewing with a good friend.  Instead of bringing a whole bag with lots of sewing options, I brought ONE project.

The project I took were my scrappy paper-pieced letters.

I stayed focused and finished my way through the blue letters.

The color orange was next and I completed the letter D and T.  Even though we gabbed a ton, I am so pleased I finished 5 of these letters.

I still have the color purple to do.  For that color, I have the letters E and N to do.  But I am motivated now so maybe I will finish those up this week.

I put all the letters completed to date up on the wall.  The next step will be to start deciding on spacing, trimming the letters and piecing all the background fabrics.  

(The pattern I used for these paper-pieced letters are designed by Quiet Play.)

I have about a month to get this all finished as I hope to put it up in my booth at the Westside Quilters Guild Quilt Show in early October.  I will be the featured quilter there.

A Finish that has been a LONG Time Coming

 I never thought I would finish this project!

I started these blocks back in 2014.  They were a QAL with Kristy at Quiet Play.

(The QAL is no longer available, but you can buy the pattern here.)

I finished the blocks right on schedule but putting them into a quilt has been on my list since!

In 2019, I put them on my cutting mat hoping to prod me into some action.  Since then, I have been just working around them.

Well I am pleased as punch that I finally got them sewed up into a quilt top and even quilted!

My incentive was the UFO challenge my friend and I are doing this year.  This was the April project I drew. So far I am 4 for 4!

I had not paper pieced much before I did these blocks.  The level of complexity went up each month.  I remember this potholder block was the first month.

And the last block was this center one.  But after making all the other blocks, I was prepared to tackle something really complex.

My favorite block is still the stand mixer.  It reminds me of the one my grandmother used.

I had a piece of this sparkly black fabric that was big enough for the backing.

I even got it hung up on my kitchen nook wall.

Yay for me!!!

My UFO list continues to get smaller.  It feels so good to finish up some of these really old projects!

Oh Scrap! : Still working with Pink

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

Time to get out one of my favorite scrappy quilts.

 I still have a few more pink blocks to make for this year's RSC projects.

I have two paper pieced letters I need to make for my booth banner.  I finished my letter A.  The other letter I have to do is the letter S - having already made one in yellow and knowing how hard it was, I decided I needed to procrastinate...

So I started something new!

These will finish at 3 x 5".  All of the pieces for the block are cut a 1.5" x 3.5".

Here are what I have done so far.  I calculated that I will need about 30 blocks of each of the colors. 

I have a feeling that this project will run for a few years!

I am hoping this project will help me clean out a lot of the narrow strings in my scrap bins!

Oh Scrap! : More Yellow

 I actually sewed quite a bit this week.

But I sure do not feel like I have much to show for it!

I did sew this little 4" tall block.  I think it took me most of the week!

I am looking forward to April's RSC color to see what letters I get to sew next.

I also sewed up two more of my Bloom blocks.

I still have two more yellow blocks to make.  I have the HSTs finished but they need to be trimmed and sewn into blocks.  It shouldn't take me too long to finish those up.  This project just needs orange and green blocks and it will be ready for assembly.

A lot of the time this week was spent on placemats.  I have been a piecing, quilting and binding fool and should have a nice big stack of them ready to share next Friday.

So Scrappy for RSC22 

Oh Scrap! : RSC Blocks

 The sunny days have turned rainy here so I was able to spend some time in my sewing room.

I finished up all of my Chaser Blocks in Yellow for the month of March.

I love this project more with every month's worth of blocks added.

I also finished two more of my Bloom blocks.  I still have four more yellow ones to make for the quilt design I am making.  Hopefully I can get to them next week - they are all cut, I just need to sew them up.

And lastly, I finished up my letter R for my booth banner.  I still have the letter S to make in the color yellow.

Here are all the letters I have made so far.  I still have 12 to go!

So many scraps and so little Time...I am never going to get to them all!
