Around the end of March, Michele at Quilts From My Crayon Box held a Follower Giveaway and I was the lucky winner of three half yards of the Petal Pusher collection from Windham Fabrics! As soon as the package arrived, I immediately pulled some solid white from my stash and found a great white and lime green print for a backing.
I immediately got to cutting and sewing and had this little baby quilt done in no time. I love the spring-time colors and the fresh feel of this little quilt.
Of course as I was taking the final pictures of the quilt, I noticed I messed up the block placement.
...and not only did I mess up the block placement but I seem to have even sewn up the reverse block to those I needed.
So to take my own advice, my story is this design was what I had planned to do all along!
(Yes, I have this sign proudly displayed in my home!)
Well, at least the back is pretty! Maybe no one will notice the front.
I quilted it with some simple ribboning. I always hear new quilters say, "I can only stipple". Well, if you can stipple, you can ribbon.
First, stipple an area of your quilt.
Don't get it too tightly quilted - you need to have lots of room to ribbon back.
Now if you think of each stipple as a "bucket", you quilt back through the top of each bucket always aiming for the center bottom. Then just echo your quilting into the next "bucket".
You want to do the same thing even through the shallow "buckets". Try it on paper and you will see just how easy it is.
Thanks Michele for the fun fabrics! This quilt was a great distraction from all the older, boring projects I have been making myself finish up.

Okay, first of all, it took me three careful looks to figure out WHERE is this mistake she's talking about? Then I saw the diagonal pattern...I do not think anyone will notice. Your eye jumps around quite nicely. Second, thank you for the ribbon idea! I'm just stippling my Summer Daze quilt, but 1/3 through I'm getting kind of bored even though I do love the zoning out and flowing feeling it gives me...so I might go back in a try this! Third, from what I am learning about you, with 4 days, you will probably have 40 tops ready to put on Pete when he's fixed!! You never cease to amaze me.
This turned out great. I would have never noticed had you not pointed it out and I went back to look! Fun to sew something from your winnings!

I love the springy colours in this quilt. Doing the variation blocks in right-block-wrong-colour just makes it look like a nifty design quirk. I didn't realise it was a mistake until you said! :) your ribbon quilting is awesome too! Thanks for showing us how to do it; I've logged it away for future opportunities to try it out.

BEAUTIFUL colors!!! I love it!! Honestly, if you wouldn't have pointed out the mistake, I might have missed it. I don't know about quilting, but in knitting we call our mistakes "design features." Great job!
