Oh Scrap! : Delivery by Wilma

This was a great week for Many Hands and Many Hearts.  We have TWO new longarm quilters joining our volunteer ranks.  One is even ready to do a couple a week for us.  

So, I have been spending this week trying to get backs pieced, batting cut and (for some) binding prepped.  How many?  I am prepping up for 19 quilts!  Needless to say,
I don't have anything scrappy to share today.

But I do have some finished quilts to share.  Wilma lives in the Sacramento area and was planning a trip north with some friends.  They offered to bring some finished quilts to be dropped off.  Unfortunately, the friends were unable to come but Wilma's husband decided to take a nice vacation up to Oregon with his wife.

First up is this sweet Sunbonnet Sue Quilt.  I think Wilma made this one.  It is actually tied and has a higher loft batting.  

It is so squishy and soft.

I think Wilma also made this blue work Sunbonnet Sue.  This is really a bed sized quilt but we have plans for it.  Janet struggled to hold up the backing so she just shared half - it is a lovely soft blue

Amber made this happy quilt.  The panels she used are really cute and she picked the perfect prints to go with them.

I think Wilma made this one.  I really like the pattern - you can really play around with colors on this block. And the border print she picked was perfect for the bold colors she picked.

This is actually an ocean themed quilt.  The colors are so soft and soothing.  Amber used a colorful batik for the back.  I think this was sent out for an older kid last week and is probably already delivering cuddles to someone.

This is another finished quilt made by Amber.  Love the turtles!  It is all appliqued and is going to be definitely treasured by some child

This final quilt is one made by Wilma.  Another great pattern with stars and chains and sashing all coming together to make a great design.

I think Wilma also brought up three quilt tops for us to finish.  I think they are all queued up for longarm quilting so I will share those when they are completed.  Thanks so much for making the trip North Willma.  It was wonderful to meet you and your husband!

Another Chunky Finish

 I have been so busy working on my donation quilt project, I forgot to share anther quilt I made using my Scrap Mixology Chunky block.

This quilt just makes me dream of summertime and picnics.  

I did pull a background fabric out of my stash and use the same fabric for the white centers.

The blocks are all made from various chunky prints I had in my scrap bins.  The lime striped fabric really pulled them all together.

I put an amazing orange floral I got from Connecting Threads on the back.  

My Scrap Mixology patterns are each focused on a type of scrap and the Chunky Block helps to use those project leftovers and big chunks.  The block is super simple but there are so many layouts you can create.  I have already shared other quilts here and here.

Best of 2018

For the last four years, Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs has hosted the "Best of" blog party.  I always enjoy to look back at all of my posts for the year and pick out some favorites.

The quilt finish with the most views this year was my scrappy Kaffe Fassett bowtie finish.  The blocks were made as an Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt.  I had varying quantities of each color group so I decided to get creative with the layout.

This quilt is a queen size and very similar to the Plum and Gray Bowtie quilt I made earlier in the year.

Everyone is always so surprised both of these quilts are made with the simple bowtie block.  I decided to go ahead and make some layout sheets available in my pattern store. (I know my store will continue to be open but I am not sure if this pattern will continue to be available after the upcoming changes at Craftsy.)

My favorite finish and the quilt that received the most comments in 2018 was my values quilt.  It was so much fun to make and I love the way it turned out.  It is also a favorite when I bring it out in my Trunk Show Presentations.

My most active posts are almost always on Sundays when I host Oh Scrap!  I so love to see everyone pop in to see all the scrappy projects that are linked up every week.  There is so much inspiration and support.  This string quilt is another of my favorite Scrap quilts I made in 2018.

I am looking forward to seeing what quilts I create in 2019.  You know many of them will be made from scraps and their main theme will be lots of color!

Best of 2016!

As 2017 come screaming towards me, I have been spending this week contemplating what the future holds and looking back on the past year.  I am a strong believer in having a plan and when you look forward, you have to look where you have been to see what you want to change.

Personally, 2017 can't get here soon enough for me.  2016 really sucked!

But there were still some great things about it.  One of which was the support, encouragement and inspiration I received from all of you.  I cannot express enough how much I appreciate you!

Here are a few other highlights from the year...

Are you curious what post was viewed the most?  It was one of my string quilt finishes.  Most of the hits come from Pinterest.  I am always pleased with how many quilters love string quilts like I do!

If that is you, buckle up....because over the next year there are going to be a rainbow of them getting made.  I have lots of scrappy strings to burn through!

The finish I was most pleased with was this Kaffe Fassett quilt.  It was not a favorite quilt but it was one of my oldest UFOs. 

Boy, it feels good to get an old project finished! 

By far, the silliest finish was the Pig Race quilt.  I donated this quilt to a kid's charity but I still love coming across photos of the blocks. I hope it found a good home and made a child smile!

And you cannot put out a "Best of" without including your favorite quilts. 

My favorite scrappy finish was this colorwash quilt.   Using scraps to play with color is probably my favorite past-time.  So I pretty much enjoyed every step of making this quilt!

And the quilt I cherish the most is my Park Bench quilt.  It doesn't come out of the cupboard very often but when it does, I always feel great pride in it.

When Friends give you Scraps...

About once a month, I sew with a couple of good friends.  And more often than not, I come home with a handful of scraps.

At the sew day in September, a friend had sent a couple of quilts to me for quilting.  Along with the quilts came a handful of the leftovers to toss in my scrap bin.  Well, once I got home I realized they were already all trimmed to the same width so rather than toss them into an already full tub, I just threw them up on my design wall.

I added some horizontal strips in Kona snow, some easy straight line quilting and ran it through a quick wash for a fast little finish.

My other finish to share is the fence quilt hanger in the background.  Which was not fast or easy!  

But it sure looks nice now that it is completed!

 Oh, and here is my friend's quilt using the same fabrics.

 I decided to quilt a splashy allover swirl on it - I am sure my inspiration is our current weather!

Preparing for Summer - OMG Finish

At the beginning of May, I shared a photo of another older stash fabric pull that I was hoping to turn into something by the end of the month.  Well, one of my readers suggested place mats and another suggested a tablecloth for maybe outdoors.  That got me thinking...

My outdoor table could really use a square table topper for the summer.  (Due to the downpour outside, I have to share indoor photos.)  I came up with a simple block that was quick to sew.  Unfortunately, in my efforts to use up old fabrics, I didn't get enough contrast in the blocks.  But to use outside for a season or two, it will be just fine!  

I even made me up a quick matching napkin holder.

 I cobbled it together with some fusible fleece, a bit of top stitching and a few buttons.

 It was really just an excuse to use up more of this olive fabric....I think I still have a couple yards left!

A bit disappointed with this finish but it will still get lots of use!  The good news is I won't be upset when the margaritas and salsa get spilled.

This finish does fulfill my One Monthly Goal for May.  A big thanks to Heidi at Red Letter Quilts for hosting the event!
