I admit, I am not a summer person! In fact, I melt in the heat and spend most of the summer indoors dreaming of Fall and cooler temperatures.
With all the time spent indoors, I was able to get one of my old quilt tops on my longarm and get it quilted up. This is one of the first quilts I designed. While the fabrics are really old, I still love the colors and layout of this quilt. I might just have to make it again using some contemporary fabrics.
For the quilting, I used a dusty plum colored thread and quilted in some giant flowers. I thought they worked really well with all the large scale floral prints in the quilt.
This quilt is quite a large lap size quilt. It measures almost 80" square. I really do hate when my feet pop out from the bottom of a quilt!
On the back, I used a bold striped fabric I purchased when I finished the top all those years ago. Probably not what I would have chosen for the backing today but I really didn't want to pick something else and have 5 yards of this fabric in my stash.
I did consider momentarily turning the fabric into some basketweave stars. Thankfully, I came to my senses before I started another quilt. The colors are right so it might work its way into my braided star quilt.
For now it resides on my design wall of long term projects. All waiting for me to find some time to work on them!
And as I had this project as part of my 3rd Quarter Finish Along goals with The Littlest Thistle, I can scratch this one off the list. That leaves me two and a half months to finish up the other 3 items. So far, so good!!

Congrats on the finish! I love the bold colors and I think the stripe works great for the backing.
So good! I love the colors and prints for this quilt... guess I'm dated, too. I really don't like the modern prints. Too busy for my tastes. Luckily some of them are tone on tone so I can still add to the stash and I have my stash to go to when I might have purchased something. You should not feel badly about finishing a dated quilt.... there are people out there that are making Civil War era quilts and 30s prints quilts... aren't those "dated"? It's a finish, and a beautiful quilt. Amen!
Hugs
The quilting you choose works really well with the prints in the top. I think the stripe is a great backing, but it is fun to see it as a star as well.
The fabrics in this are fabulous, and the design is just perfect for large-scale prints. Great job!
Congrats on a very nice finish! The quilting is beautiful. Thank you for sharing at TGIFF.

This is stunning. I love the effect of the black background
I am so cautious, I really need to step out of my comfort zone.
I do not like summer either, not one bit, I do not like getting suntan, I do not like sweating, it heat and humidity make me sick. Thank God for air conditioning or I would be a cranky person
Thanks for sharing this marvelous quilt
Love the finish! And I know the feeling you mentioned about the back! Glad you stuck to your guns instead of starting a new quilt (despite how fabulous that star looked!)
Oh I was just telling my DH yesterday that my favorite thing about summer is FALL!!! LOL!! Love that you have long time residents on your design wall as well....off to buy some lavender thread after see yours....it quilted up just wonderfully!!!
Great finish!!! All of the blues and purples are so pretty together! Thank you for linking up to #sewjosaturday!
Love the fabrics you've used and the quilting design xxx
Beautiful quilt! I am pretty short so I have the luxury of keeping my toes covered. My brother always complains asking can he get a quilt that actually covers his fee, haha! Soon enough:) Bring on the snow! I'm melting down here too:)
I love the colors and yeah to you for finishing it.
Great use for those large print flowers! I love the jewel colors on the black background. They illuminate! I love the stripes in the 4 point star! Weather wise we are having Fall like weather. So refreshing. Typically we have high 90 s and lots of humidity this time of the year.
I like the stars really well! I keep thinking that you should be running out of old projects by now. But they just keep coming! So nice to see them all :)
Oh so pretty - and I really love your fabrics including the backing. I do like those stripped stars too. Good job. (Love the quilting too!)
Congrats on your finishes :o)
