I admit, I have collected a number of rulers over the years. Long ones, square ones and quite a few those specialty ones that were supposed to make my quilting easier. So I haven't really been buying too many rulers in the last few years until I found the Bloc Loc rulers.
I have been using the HST ruler for a couple of years now. I have been wanting some of the other configurations but they are spendy and always seem to be one of the things that gets deleted from my cart before I hit the "buy" button.
Well, lucky me recently won a gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop from Simply Vanella (Thanks so much!) and I decided I really didn't need any fabric and chose treat myself to some rulers!
I have been really wanting one of the Flying Geese rulers. I went with the 3" x 6" size. As soon as I received it in the mail, I pulled some solid scraps and made these cute framed geese blocks.
I also treated myself to a set of the Half-Rectangle rulers. I definitely see some scrappy stars in my future!
I always love to get fabric in the post but getting these rulers has certainly filled my head with lots of possibilities and designs. I am looking forward to putting them to good use in the coming months!
Have you tried the Bloc Loc rulers yet?

Yea I hated.. H A T E D the Bloc-Loc ruler the first time I used it.. I think I was rushing and didn't take the time to figure it out. Then came a Veterans donation quilt with 144 HST and I thought maybe I should pull it back out.. watched the video and bingo.. Once you get the hang of spinning the block and ruler its a wonderful tool!
I'm sitting here right now squaring up some HSTs. Bloc-Loc is the only way to go. I just added some invisigrip, even better!
Mmh, I'm a addict to special rulers. They look very useful. Thanks for the tip!
Greetings, Rike
I have the Flying Geese ruler and haven't made geese any other way. Will have to check out the HSTs next.
Great use of your gift certificate! I don't have any block-loc rulers, yet, but they are on my "wish list". :)
I love the Boc Loc rulers. I got a really good deal on the HST set and once I tried the I was hooked. I have one fly geese and am waiting for another great deal on that set. Now I may have to add the Half Rectangle ones.
Yes I love them!! I have the set of smaller sq ones and then the 1/2 rectangle ones(haven't used those yet. And I bought one of their books on blocks-need to get those out and use yet too, LOL too many toys and not enough time!

Nice addition! I got one for HSTs. It is pretty cool, I definitely like it.
I've considered those rulers from time to time also but haven't pulled the trigger yet. My quilty friend Gretchen uses them and loves them.
I'm a converted fan of the bloc loc ruler too! It really is a brilliant tool. One of these days I'll invest in the rectangular version too :)
Even though I know they are extremely accurate, it bugs me to have waste on any block. I grew up in a house where there was little, if any waste. My parents lived through the depression, so we used everything. Pencils were used to the nubs - it was when you could no longer get them in the pencil sharpener or whittle them with a knife.
I have the HST and the FG LocBloc now I need the Rectangle ones. They are fabulous in my book.
LOVE Bloc-loc rulers! I've thought about getting the geese/rectangle, but haven't yet! With all the HST's I do these rulers are a life saver (not to mention time saver!!) They are fabulous!
