I want to remind all of you that the Quilty Orphan Adoption Event is coming soon! Time to check through your sewing rooms and clear out those unwanted projects, orphan blocks or "what was I thinking" fabrics and find them a new home.
The last event held in June found homes for over 12 unwanted projects. Many were adopted and finished up and donated to some great organizations.
In fact, here is a quilt that was finished by Quilts by Joanne from some orphan blocks donated by Work In Progress Girl. What was languishing on a shelf is now ready to be loved!
Kaitlyn of Kat & Cat Quilts adopted some cute cat blocks and turned them into this great quilt which she donated to a favorite charity. You can read more about the quilt here. Laurie at ThreeOldKeys generously donated these.
So many of us have those projects we have tucked away with the thought that someday we will get them out to finish. Some of us shudder when we come across them again and just stuff them further into the drawer. I know at times, I even feel a bit of guilt over these project. This event gets those projects out of the cabinets and into the hands of wonderful quilters who are ready to finish them up so they can be loved!
I can say from experience, it feels great to release the burden!
Orphan Adoption Event
September 18th, 2015
I will be hosting a linky party starting Friday September 18th (and closing
on Sunday the 20th) where you are welcome to link up your own blog post sharing a
project you wish to abandon or orphan blocks you wish to pass on. You
can offer as little or as much as you want. It can be blocks, patterns,
kits, printed panels, fabric, anything that you hope someone else will use and you wish to get
rid of the burden.
Here are some more details:
1. I am going to ask that any "orphan" linked up must be given away for free. (If you are wanting to destash for money, there are other venues to do that on.) I think it is fair that if you need to, you can ask that shipping costs be paid. Just be sure and put that information clearly in your post. And know that both parties enter into the deal at their own risk. I hold no responsibility.
2. Have clear pictures and descriptions on what you are putting up for adoption.
3. Define the criteria for how you will decide who will adopt the item. Is it a random number giveaway, do you only want it to go to charity, or is there some other criteria that needs to be met?
4. Be sure and identify where you are located and where you are willing to ship to.
5. Define how long you are keeping the adoption open and when you expect to award the adoption.
Once again, I have a whole project picked out that I will be putting up for adoption on Friday.
I know there will be someone who will give it some attention and finish
it up. And I will be so happy to cross it off my list and move on to a
more inspiring project!
So go look on those shelves and
those deep dark corners in your sewing room and see what you have to
clean out and move on. I am sure there will be someone who is more than
willing to adopt what you have to offer!

I've already made 5 donation quilts this quarter from orphans and string blocks. Many more to go!
This is such a fun event. I can't wait to see what comes out of people's closets, and what other people create!
I'm posting a tutorial for using a software to preview a quilt block in a quilt. If this isn't appropriate for this linky, I won't mind if you delete it. Thanks for hosting.
Great idea Cynthia! It's getting harder for me to find time for my blog and sewing lately (some "real life stuff" happening during the next couple months) but I do have some abandoned blocks and other things I'd love to adopt out for free. :)
I really look forward to seeing the adoption quilts!
what a fabulous idea! and just looking at the new life given to those orphan blocks is proof.
Thank you for hosting this link-up. I'm sure your quilts will be very welcome gifts for those little ones in need. You're very generous!
