Scrap-A-Palooza! Quilt #19 Part One Fabrics

I found myself with some free time this afternoon so I thought I would spend it starting a new quilt!

It has been quite some time since I have sewn on a Scrap-A-Palooza quilt but many ideas have been floating around in my head.  As with many quilts, inspiration comes when I have to deal with finding a home for some fabric.

I am just about finished sewing up the top for my Park Bench quilt so I have gathered up all the odd shaped low volume scraps left over from the project.  Almost everything is cut at an angle on the quilt so the bits are not useful in a lot of my scrap quilts.

And speaking of triangles, I also thought I would start in my red scrap bin and pull out some of my odd shaped scraps form there too.

So with camera in hand for capturing the process, I am off to sew all these odd shaped bits into some fun blocks.  I should be back in a few days to share what I came up with!

I am currious, what do you end up doing with your odd shaped scraps?

Nothing is more fun than a new quilt. Have fun playing with your scraps.

Depends on the size of the odd shaped scrap! If large I cut it to the largest size square. If small I use it in crumb blocks. If it's really really small I use it for garden mulch!

Have fun!

Just today I have been using odd-shaped pieces as the corners on 6-1/2" string blocks. I will also be using some as wonky star points in another current project. But I recently saw a border treatment using odd-angled triangles and have been thinking in that direction. It must have something to do with the phase of the moon ....

I can't wait to see what you're up to!
Currently, my odd shapes are getting thrown in the general direction of a box on the floor by my cutting area. Eventually I want to make a string quilt. After I pick up the scraps from the floor - I did say 'in the general direction of a box'...

I cut all my scraps into squares of all sizes and use up every bit I can down to 1.5 inches which are being made into a postage stamp quilt right now - queen size

Well, all my cut offs, strips & scraps end up tossed into the basket under my sewing table! I did try separating them out according to colour once, but quite honestly, that took away sewing time! Now I just rummage for something if I want it!

Will this quilt be red and white, or are you adding in more colors? Can't wait to see! As for odd shaped scraps, I'm with a few of the others - they get thrown in a scrap box next to my cutting table. You never know what you might need them for! I'm still working on some better organization for my scraps!

You should get some interesting blocks from those leftover bits! I keep a bag in my sewing cupboard where I throw all my small-ish scraps. Every now and then I spend a little time cutting them into useable shapes and sizes, usually squares at 2 1/2", 1 1/2" and 2 7/8" (for a quilt I've been wanting to make forever, but it takes a bazillion HSTs).

I like to make fabric from my odd shaped scraps and then use them in other projects. I have some of those same red scraps. Thanks for linking up

If scrap is big enough to make a tumbler piece, I cut a tumbler or 2 for quilt that is in progress. If not, it gets cut into squares - 5", 3 1/2", 3", 2 1/2", or 2". If too small for that, but at least 1" it goes in my bits & pieces bin for future reference.

I store even the smallest scraps in a lot of drawers sorted out in colors. Right now I have been looking for patterns and blocks made of Half-square-triangles. I have decided on a sawtooth-star in HST. The background being light pink and whites. Because I have a large amount of "cut off" triangles. Take a look at my Pinterestfolders:HST and Scrapquilts. Love the Way you do your scraps.

I look forward to seeing what you do with these. I never know what to do other than cut the odd shapes.
