Up on the Design Walls

When my quilting friends visit my home, the first thing they ask is to see what is up on my design walls. I know I always like to see what others are working on so I thought I would occasionally feature what is up on my walls.

I have the luxury of having three design walls. (I know...you can be jealous.)  Two in my small sewing room (it is an inner room so I don't have any windows to deal with) and a giant one that holds two queen size quilts in my quilting studio (where my longarm is).

In my sewing room, one wall is slowly filling with my neutral string blocks. I have been trying to sew 5 blocks at a sitting.  I am loving that I found a home for all these brown tones I don't really use much any more.

On the other wall, I am working on one of my really old WIPs.  I started this Kaffe Fassett quilt over 5 years ago.  All of the pieces were cut and some of the blocks were sewn when it got put in a bag and stuffed in a drawer.  Now I just have to sew it all together and remake some of the blocks that are missing.  It is definitely getting closer to a finish!

And finally, this is the view I have while I am standing at my longarm.  My Quilty 365 blocks are on the left, in the center are my blocks using the Craftsy Boundless solids and on the right are the blocks I have completed for my Splendid Sampler.

It is hard to choose which project to work on!

You're right...I'm jealous! But in a good way, really! Lots of fun quilty eye candy there. I love seeing the variety of projects you have going. The string blocks are so warm and cozy, while the Kaffe quilt is bright and wow! I've never owned any Kaffe fabric until just recently, because Missouri Star had a charm pack as their Daily Deal. I may need to get it out and pet it for awhile! Thanks for sharing your design walls!

Yep I am jealous too, I only have one and it is not that big-but I love it!
Your projects are awesome. I think you should work on the neutral strings and the bright solids-love that one!

Thanks for the look-see. Fun stuff going on at your place. Two queens? Yes, I'm jealous, but happy for you. I'm designing a studio for out new house -- huge room but too many windows. Bad dilemma to have, I guess. Quilts? Mountains? I'm thinking maybe a sliding wall in front of the fabric storage ....

Why would I be jealous? I have a Design FLOOR. What more do I need?!?! :P

LOTS of wonderful work going on at your house. There's about the calming quality of brown/beige quilts that speak to me (yet I really LOVE your Quilty 365 and Rainbow Logs, as well.)

What great projects. What size are your string blocks and what do you use behind them? What do you sew the strings to is what I mean.

I'm jealous, everyone is jealous of three design walls! It would be hard to choose which project to work on...so you should start a new one! LOL I love seeing all these project, each one so different from the next!

I'm not really a fan of brown and yet I really love your string blocks! They look great.

Given how tiny my sewing room is, I am definitely jealous. There isn't a single wall in our home big enough for a design wall, so I have a "design bed." It's tricky because I have to clear it off every evening.

I adore your Splendid Sampler blocks! Gorgeous, saturated colors. Yum!

That strings piece is great. I really love all the pieces in the bottom photo - very striking, every one of them. Looks like you are "quilt" busy!! ;)

Someone once asked why a person would start one quilt before they finished the first one. This is why - great eye candy. Lots of creative energy going on in your sewing rooms!

What fun to have so much design wall space and to be able to see the blocks as they come together. It would be hard to decide what to work on unless something had a deadline.

I'm not too sure just what to write after seeing all your wonderful projects, and such a variety too! Lucky you to have such a space- I end up using my 'design floor' often! Thanx for sharing the pics,

Having multiple design walls sounds kind of fun. You can enjoy looking at the projects longer. :)
