Tomorrow night is the deadline to get our Summer Solstice quilt top linked up with Melissa at Happy Quilting. Even though there were 2 weeks to finish up the blocks and sew them into a quilt top, I just wasn't sure I would make it.
So this morning I woke up determined to just get it done!
It is loud, it is chaotic and probably not for everyone...but I love it anyway.
I didn't follow Melissa's pattern completely. I decided to go with two colors in the background. I knew that teal was going to be a bit strong so alternating it with the turquoise really broke it up. I also decided to skip the sashing. I did this partly because I liked the alternate patterns that were created (I might capitalize on them in the quilting) and because the backing I want to use was too small if the quilt got much bigger.
There are nine giant 24" blocks so the quilt measures 72" square - which is one of my favorite sizes for a quilt. It certainly is an explosion of color!
Unfortunately, I will not get this quilted in time for the quilt parade on the 15th. I probably could have slapped on some quick quilting and made it in time but I really want to spend some time on this one.
If you want to see more of these quilts, you can check out the link or visit Happy Quilting on the 15th to see all the finished projects. Thanks again Melissa for a fun Quilt Along!

LOVE the blue and orange. Great looking quilt.
It is absolutely stunning!!! And I so love the way the secondary patterns in color were created without the sashing. Just amazing!!! Such a beautiful finish!!! And way to get it done in time. I know, that is a ton of piecing!!! So happy you quilted along with me again ;)
Oh, it is lovely, Cynthia! I think it turned out great! :)
I love the colors and live how your quilt top turned out!
I think it turned out wonderful. I love the way the blues made the background look. Nice job.
I don't think it looks chaotic at all. Lovely quilt
How beautiful! I love the two shades of aqua/turquoise together with the coral/orange/rose. The quilt glows!

This turned out great. I love the mix of teal and turquoise. Good luck with quilting.
Your color choices have made this quilt sing like a choir!
Love your quilt!
I love the colors you chose! They're so rich and beautiful, and they remind me of some gorgeous Mediterranean tiles.
I really like the effect from the two background colors. It is bright, colorful, and fun. I can't wait to see how you quilt it.
Very beautiful quilt, I too choose turquoise as background but i am very late, not certain to be able to post for tomorrow :(
Very pretty! The colors work great together. :)
Your version is a blockbuster! I made the baby version, and still might not get it quilted. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

Your blocks look great together--beautiful colors, and I love the secondary pattern when they are set without sashing.
This quilt came out beautiful! It is my favorite color combination so far.
Love the quilt! I don't think its chaotic - though it might be colorful ;) It just looks like happy und bright times. You will enjoy it a lot and it's worth the wait if you can finish it with the prefered quilting.
It may (or may not) be chaotic, but it sure is happy and fun. I love the colours.
The orange and teal is a fabulous combination. The quilt looks fabulous!
Wow, what a stunning mix of color!! Very pretty!!
Yeah for the finish!!! I personally love loud and chaotic so this one is right up my alley. I really like the color scheme and agree the 2 color background was a good choice.
Whadaya mean loud and chaotic? It's just right!
This quilt makes me smile looking at it. I love the bold and cheery colors and that combination is gorgeous!
That is just beautiful! I love the color combination - you are a master at that! Definitely a warm and summery quilt, but perfect for moving into fall, too.
The contrast between the blue and orange is dramatic and perfect for this pattern. I also love that you have mixed both solids and prints. I can't wait to see how you decide to quilt this! She's a beauty!
This is stunning, such a great choice of colours that really bounce off each other, great work!
