Remember these little trimmings I just couldn't throw away?
I have been using them as a leader/ender project to make these little blocks. I used a 2.5" pre-cut square for the center, sewed a frame around it using those trimmings and then framed the whole block using some leftover binding pieces. The only precise cutting I really had to do was to square up the block at the end.
For colors, I tried to only pull scraps that were in the blue, green, black and gray colorways.
I used up every one of those trimmings and ended up with this sweet 42" square quilt.
I even used scraps for the binding!
I even used scraps for the binding!
I am not sure yet what to do with this quilt so I kept the quilting easy - swirls are definitely my go to pattern! I used a medium gray for the thread.
And I was able to use some really old stash pieces for the backing!
I find it silly that I made a whole quilt just to save a few little trimmings. But I enjoyed the process and loved that there was virtually no cutting.
Plus, I think the little detail added by those scraps is kinda cute!

I love these little pieces. You did a beautiful job saving them. I love how it framed out the squares.
I can totally relate to being reluctant to pitch those little pieces and I love what you did with them. How very creative. Bravo!
I love what you've done with your scraps...turned them into a beautiful little quilt!
Wow! Talk about making somehting from your scraps,
You took it to a whole new level!
What a beautiful quilt!
I had some bits left after cutting a new quilt at retreat this week and it's posts such as yours that made me bring them home with me rather than throwing in the trash. Now I know what I can do with them!
I love the narrow strips around the inside square
This is beautiful! Those tiny frames pack a big punch!
great idea made a fabulous quilt!
Fantastic idea - you never sleep do you?
Waste not, want not. Very true for you! I love this idea! Did you use the same fabric around the center blocks (can't tell on my computer)?
I love it! Great use of the precious trimmings
Love it Cynthia, it is really pretty. Of course you needed to use those scraps, we all totally understand lol. Thanks for inspiring me and many others.
I don't think it's silly at all. You used more fabric and used some big pieces from your stash. It's an adorable quilt.
Very clever recycling indeed Cynthia. I'm not that good - I'd probably throw those little pieces away!
What a clever idea! I love using all those pretty little bits. Your quilt turned out wonderful!
I agree with others, a great idea to use all your trimmings. I'm not what I would call a modern style quilter myself, but I do like this quilt. I think the simplicity appeals to me and your swirly quilting pattern.
I think it lovely to make a whole quilt to use up small strips! It isn't like you went out and got new fabric to use them, but you also used scraps for the bigger parts. And the result is really attractive!
Sometimes when you get an idea, you just have to go with it! I love the colors you put together. That's what drew me to your scrappy quilting style in the first place - you are so good at putting scraps together that work!
It might be silly, but it was an 'oh so good silly', it's a super cute quilt! As quilters we do it because we can, LOL
Wow, this is just wonderful
That turned out so cute! What a fun project. And like I tell my husband when I make something out of my stash or scraps, "It didn't cost a cent!" Good job!
Boy Cynthia, you can make lovely quilts out of a little of this and a little of that.
A very fun and pretty quilt. It's great that you can use such little pieces as inspiration for a great scrap quilt.
Reminds me of a colorful card Catalogue! Remember those from the library? Very cute finish!
Wonderful scrappy quilt, congratulations on another fine finish!
Love this quilt!! Colors are so nice together!
So the question that comes to my mind is how many scraps as there from this quilt that need to become a new quilt? It can perpetuate itself for years I think. Especially when you do such a good job at making scrappy look good.
Love the idea of your scrap quilt.
It is great to get a finished project out of scraps that people throw in the rubbish
It looks gorgeous - it's such a pretty colour, and I love the way the whole quilt comes together :)
Another win! I'm pretty sure you've never made a quilt I didn't love!
Cynthia, you always amaze me with both your ability to create from scrap and your use of color. Great job on this one - it is so pretty.
Awesome! I love how you look at scraps and can find such perfect ways to use them.
Great quilt - love the color combo and the quilting! Thanks for linking up to TGIFF!
I love this idea! So glad I found your blog!
