I rarely make quilts from an entire collection of fabrics or by a specific designer. But when I saw that Maureen Cracknell and Sharon Holland were going to host a Quilt Along last spring, I thought it would be fitting to break out my treasured Maureen Cracknell fabrics.
A new block was released each week. I didn't always do a great job of keeping up but it never took me too long to catch back up again. Some of the blocks have frames and some are without. My goal from the beginning was to use a different fabric for all of the frames.
I used Kona Snow for the sashing, which I cut at 1.5". I wanted something simple that would allow each individual block to shine.
I was able to capture a photo of the finished quilt just before the sun went down. I am really happy with how it turned out. It is probably one I will be keeping for myself. It is nice to have fabrics from the first three Maureen Cracknell collections all in one quilt.
I used this navy fabric that was in my stash. With the front of the quilt being so light, I wanted a nice dark fabric for the backing.
In a cream thread, I free motion quilted some feathers and various swirls across the quilt. I am really happy with how it turned out. My initial plan was to quilt each block differently but I am glad I went with something simpler after I loaded it up on my machine.
Happy Friday...Have a wonderful weekend!

nice sampler quilt
Beautiful finish to your sampler blocks.
It is stunning!!! I agree, the simple quilting works well, the blocks in all their glory shine.
It's lovely, Cynthia! Using Maureen's lines for it was a great idea and I always get excited to hear when a quilter will be keeping a quilt for themselves. :)
Fabulous finish! I love sampler quilts and am thinking of finishing a few more of my sampler WIPs and preparing a trunk show of them all... I have amassed quite a collection (many unfinished at the moment) because I love them!
How fun! it looks so great!
Congrats on the finish of your beautiful sampler.
I really like this one! Great finish.
Great job on the quilting!!!
Love your block setting. You did a great job as always.
This is lovely! I love that you used a different fabric for each of the block frames, and the Snow is perfect to set it all off. Congratulations on a nice finish!
So pretty! I especially love the soft, swirly quilting against the dark blue background. It's often tempting to get really complicated with the quilting, but this simple motif lets the blocks and fabrics really shine on this piece.
This is so pretty! I love all the mellow colors with a bit of red here and there. Maureen does have such beautiful fabric!
First, quilting simple is sometimes the best option! Second, it is a rare event when you use one fabric line (or me, or so many others) for a quilt. You nailed it and it is gorgeous. I don't blame you for keeping it...I would too!
Beautiful finish! I like how the frames are in different widths. And your quilting is gorgeous. It is so even I thought it was a pantograph.
This is so pretty. I had a great time with this QAL. Each quilt made from this event is so cool yet really different. I used Maureen's fabric for mine too. I just finished the top and now it is in line to be quilted! Hurray!
Wow! The small white sashing is perfect to bring everything together. Loving it!
Great job! Wonderful fabrics. Love it!
