Pink!

With the color pink being the RSC color for October, it is time for me to start making some string blocks.

I already have some pink "standard" string blocks tucked away for a future project.  I think I need a few more but I have to find my "master plan" for these blocks.  I think it is written on a scrap of paper somewhere that I filed away so I wouldn't forget where it was....

So in the mean time, I started making these pink blocks.  They measure 10.5" x 8.5".  I am using a fabric foundation just because it helps me to see where I am on the block.  I could use paper but I really hate the mess it makes!

So far I have 18 blocks all finished.  I think I will need a total of 40 blocks for a nice lap sized quilt.  I am using a number of pink shades in each block plus one or two strings of gray.

This quilt makes me happy!

Oh so gorgeous! I like the bits of gray added in, too. One can never have enough strings, string blocks and string projects.

I like to sew string blocks on a fabric foundation too. And use very fine vilene which is not at all expensive.

I have used "fabric" for foundation piecing, and have found that the end quilt, as in, top/foundation/batting/backing was far too heavy--(I wish I could find some one who would love a HEAVY pink string pieced quilt !!)
So I only use paper now for the "foundation" piecing ala Bonnie Hunter and her phone book paper. Let's face it, after pulling off the paper, yes there are still small bits of paper left in the seam--but paper is recyclable and it all disappears in the first wash :-) (pull papers off while watching TV (?)or while doing other boring "sit down" things

I can see why it makes you happy. such a fun quilt. love it.
I too hate the paper mess and prefer to use a fabric foundation.
(plus it helps me trim the stash faster so that enhancement is justified) LOL

These are so fun! I've never seen string blocks like this, on a foundation yet sort of improv angles. I like it!

Wow, nicely done. I think I will have to try this. I've spent so much time inside the intricateness of crazy quilts which I love, but your simply but vibrant approach is calling to me. Found you via the linky party.
