Oh Scrap! : Scrappy Stars

In the states, this weekend is our Memorial Day holiday.  A time to remember all those who died while serving in our armed forces.  I thought it was the perfect time to be working on some patriotic red, white and blue scrappy stars for a project I have been working on.

These blocks are 9 and 12 inches - I think I have about 6 of each to make.

What about you?  Have you been playing with your scraps?

Oh Scrap! : This and That

I am still not finding a lot of time in my sewing room but I did get out a few bins of scraps and make a few blocks.

First on my list was to make my pink Squared Away blocks for May.  The one on the right isn't quite as pale as it looks but the pink I chose is a bit light.  When I go to put the top together, I will need to decide if I need to remake.  Right now I will just store it with the rest of my blocks.

I also wanted to finish my 16-patch blocks for this donation quilt.  I was using my leftover binding strips to make the 16-patch blocks.  I sewed up all of the strips that were long enough and came up a few blocks short.  But never fear, I just went to my orphan block box and pulled a few that I think will work just fine in the quilt.

Now I need to spend time balancing out the colors and designs.  Soon this one should be a quilt top!

That was about all of the scrap quilting I did this week.
I hope you share your scrappy inspiration below!

A Friday Finish

Even though the weather here in Oregon has been beautiful, I found some indoor time to get a quilt of my own onto my frame.

I love it when a finished quilt was made entirely from scraps and stash!  Lots of old stringy black scraps went into this quilt.

I did use some Essex yarn dyed linen from my stash for the large squares.  And the bright dots used in the cornerstones is a piece I acquired years ago.  It feels good to find it a home finally.

I decided to just quilt a panto called Rosie on this one in a black thread.  I knew the pattern would fill in those gray squares nicely.

The quilting also worked with the stash piece I used for the backing.  I was gifted this large fruit and floral fabric - it really brightened up the quilt.  It is a fun surprise when you turn the quilt over!

I hope all of you are seeing some nice weather and enjoying the outdoors.  My vegetable gardens are now planted and I am busy plucking all the weeds that try to take up residence in my flower beds this time of year.  It is a battle!

Have a great weekend!

Oh Scrap! : Happy Mother's Day

First, Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful moms out there.  I thought I would share a few of my garden flowers with you!

My clematis is already starting to  put on a show.

Two of my peony varieties are blooming.
Still to come are the dark red, soft pink, coral and peach.

I have many rhododendrons in my yard but this pale lavender one is my favorite.  It looks so boring from a distance but get up close and there are so many colors to it.

My lewisia is also blooming right now in my sedum garden.  Bursts of pink, coral, magenta, white, peach and yellow.  I love their small dainty flower!

...and speaking of pink - I have been spending some time indoors sewing up my RSC blocks.

Seven more of these blocks for a donation quilt I am working on.  I now have a total of 35 blocks completed and think I will need 63 for my quilt.  I am already over halfway there!

I also sewed up 6 more Kaffe Fassett bowtie blocks.  I am planning on a queen sized quilt so I still have a ways to go.
