Oh Scrap! : RSC Sampler Blocks

It was fun to keep digging in my orange scraps for the perfect pieces to finish up this month's block for the Squared Away Sampler.

I enjoyed playing with the color placement on this block design.  It really changed the look of the block to use the darker fabric in different locations.

Here are all of my blocks all together.  I think there are only a couple more blocks to release. A few of these blocks I hope to someday revisit and make a whole quilt from them.

But I am thinking seriously of adopting out all these blocks next month during my Quilty Orphan Adoption event and not finishing this sampler.  I always enjoy making the different blocks but I am just not a fan of this type of design.  I know there will probably be someone who would love to add these to their own collection and make a bigger quilt.

And I still had the joy of entertaining myself with making the blocks!

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

It's amazing how fabric and color choices changes the look of a block. These are the perfect example of that! Whoever adopts these blocks if you decide to do that will have an amazing quilt in the end!!

I love how different those blocks are from using different colors in your first photo

Sometimes our craft can be more about the process than the finished product! Which block do you think you'd like to make a whole quilt out of?

I'm with you - sometimes all the fun is in the block-making rather than in the whole quilt. (I'm totally a process person. This is probably why I seldom finish anything...)
That being said, I also have tucked away ideas for complete quilts using a couple of these blocks. Such a lot of fun packed into a simple 5x5 grid!

The change in position of lights and darks totally changed the block!

Your Squared Away blocks turned out beautifully. I'm struggling with how to set mine too. Sounds like you've found a good option of dealing with these sampler blocks. I'm going to set mine together, I'm just not sure how yet.

This is such a pretty set of blocks! They will make a very pretty quilt in the colors you've used!

You are so right about how the color placement changes the look of the block. I understand about not really liking sampler quilts. I'm not a big fan either. But your color choices are wonderful. Someone will enjoy working with these. And, I agree about getting the entertainment and joy from making them.

It's so interesting to me that you might put these up for adoption! Perhaps they'll end up with me, since I'm all about the finishes :)
