Oh Scrap! : Log Cabin Loonies

This week has been all about sewing my log cabin blocks.

I finished all of the blocks I needed for the quilt top made from some plaid fat quarters and cream scraps.  Once I had them up on the design wall, I didn't like the big spaces of background so I made a little change to a few of the blocks.

I cut a 2.5" square and sewed it diagonally to the light portion of the blocks.  In other words, I attached a "flip" corner.

Once I put them back up on the design wall and sewed all the blocks together, I ended up with a 48" x 64" quilt top.  I really like how that one little detail changed the look of the quilt.

The Log Cabin Loonies event is still running for a few more weeks over at JulieKQuilts and I don't want to miss out.....So I started another log cabin quilt.

I will share some of those blocks soon!

I've enjoyed seeing your log cabin blocks come together, but I really like that added detail of the square in between them. It does make a difference! Great idea!

Genius! I love that added diamond...may I borrow that in the future? Love your plaids, too. Perfect quilt!

It's been a long time since I made a Log Cabin quilt...the addition of those flippy corners is clever - I love it and now you've inspired me to start a Log Cabin quilt. This is how that 'quilts to make' list keeps getting longer. :)

It has a positive/negative effect. First I see sunflowers, then I see the dark logs. I'm going to remember that trick!

Your log cabin blocks look really great, but that flip corner just tops them off - wonderful idea!

Wow, what a difference. I like both of the quilts but the flip corner adds character.

Those plaid corners really do change the look. It's always fun to see how very simple modifications can change the look of the whole quilt. Happy stitching this week.
