Oh Scrap! : Goodbye 2018

Here we are at the last Oh Scrap! link up for 2018.  I want to thank all of you who show up every week to either link up your scrappy projects or to explore all the scrappy inspiration that gets shared.

I love our little scrappy community!

I have been working on setting these scrappy Splendid Sampler blocks I finished back in 2017.

I have finalized the setting and have been busy with quilt math and sewing all the bits together.  I was worried I would not have enough of the blue for the entire background so I pulled a green for the center design.

Does this photo look a bit awkward?

Well, that is because for some reason I ended up laying out the blocks so the quilt is on my design wall horizontally.  It makes for some confusion as I sew it but there are so many pieces, I didn't want to take the time to put it up there correctly aligned.

Plus, as  longarm quilter, I have lots of experience working on quilts oriented every which way. :)

I thought I would share a nice little trick.  I use my hera marker (every quilter should have one) and a ruler to mark the blocks on the horizontal sashing with little creases.  Then it is really easy to pin the next row and align the vertical sashing to those marks.

You end up with a nicely aligned sashing!

I wish all of you a Happy New Year!
And I hope that 2019 is a wonderful year for us all.

I will be quilting on my quilting frame today and also working on my very scrappy mystery quilt and if I have time I will work on the scrappy daisy chain as well - Happy New Year!

What a great layout for those blocks! I love the thin red sashing going around the outside - that must have taken some quilty math. Using the hera marker to line up the blocks so that match up is a great idea too! That's what I was having trouble with when I was sewing up my Squared Away top - I ended up marking the seams with a Frixion pen. Didn't think of the hera marker at the time! Happy New Year!

What a wonderful setting! That's crazy hard math to get that red line going around the quilt!

The setting you planned for these blocks is just awesome. Love the medallion and that inner red line in the setting triangle is the perfect touch to fence in all this lovely scrappiness. Thanks for the tip. I still have to find a Hera marker in town. I'm sure it is out there.
Thank you also for making this scrappy community possible every Sunday. I do appreciate all the work you put into it so we can reach so many wonderful quilters. Here's to a wonderfully scrappy New Year with lots of fabric and ... a Hera Marker. ;^)

I’ve never seen that Hera marker comment and it couldn’t be more timely. I am setting together a quilt this morning and have always marked the joins, but I love the idea of using my Hera tool. Thanks!

This quilt is a real stunner! The bright KF blocks are perfectly set off by the blue sashing. I agree with Diann and Chantal that the thin red line adds so much. Thanks for the Hera hint. No matter which way you look at it 🙃 this quilt is a winner. God bless you and your family in the New year.

Between the colorful band around the green center and the continuity provided by the repeated (WAY COOL!) orange border treatment, I think the quilt is going to look FANTASTIC!! Thank you for that slick trick with your Hera marker. I really must dig mine out and start using it more!

I love my Hera marker! But I never thought to use it to mark sashings. Genius!

I love the Splendid Sampler Cynthia, lovely mix of bright colour and although I do have a Here marker I've never thought of using it for aligning the sashing with the blocks - I'll remember this good idea.

Oh, I like the colors in the blocks, the blocks, the make-do green center, on point setting...heck, I guess I like it all!

Thanks for the hera marker tip for sashing. Much easier than the way I do it and I''m sure more accurate!

Thanks for the tip with the Hera! That's a great idea. And your piece looks like a medallion quilt now with the green center background. Love the look of an on-point medallion :)

What a great tip. Lining up rows with sashing is always a pain staking task, so anything that makes it easier is nice. Thank you for managing the linky each week. I haven't linked up lately, but it's always fun to see what everyone is working on.
