Time to get out the turquoise scraps for March.
The first blocks I decided to tackle were these rail fence pinwheel blocks.
I had a really nice selection of light and darks scraps in this color - but not many mediums.
But once these blocks get put up with all of the ones done to date, they look great! I think I am really going to like this quilt. It is so colorful!
I also want to announce that I will be hosting the Quilty Orphan Adoption Event starting Thursday March 19th. Last Fall, there were not many projects linked up so we will try again and see if we will continue in to the future. I do know there are some of you already preparing by pulling some old projects so it will be interesting to see what gets linked up!
The event is held twice a year and allows people to link up projects/items they have decided they no longer love or are going to finish. Other quilters can offer to take them off their hands and finish them. It is a win-win for both parties.
If you are interested in finding more about this event, you can read last Spring's post here.
Above is a tree quilt that was made by someone who sent me a photo from some blocks adopted long ago. I don't think I ever shared this photo. I love that unwanted blocks are coming out of the cupboard and getting finished!
So dig into those dark corners of your sewing rooms and see what you can find!
*********************************************
It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps. Here are the details for linking up:
- This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
- This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
- Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

The rail fence blocks look great. Hope you get in lots of scrappy stitching this week.
I like the block you are doing for the RSC
Love the addition of the turquoise color to your RSC quilt. I think it's going to be gorgeous when you finish it. It would be sad to see the Orphan Adoption event end, but if there isn't participation what can you do? I hope it doesn't though. It's such a great way to pass on blocks that we no longer want to others who do.
Your rail fence pinwheels look great all together! I really like the addition of the turquoise to the mix of color. They're going to make a beautiful quilt!
All the blocks are lovely together! I will see your link about the Quilty Orphan Adoption Event ;)
Always such pretty blocks to see here, Cynthia.
hey! how funny that you shared that picture from last year's OAE! those are MY blocks, that i shared with Mari! i had started some trees for the RSC18 ( i think it was...) and decided not to complete them...
i was so happy that she got them done into a beautiful quilt!
(and- don't know if you remember, but i had e-mailed you just the other day about the adoptions. i have at least 4 things i'd like to share, and i'm thrilled that you're going to be doing it again!)
Thanks for giving OAE another shot! I will see what I can put on offer.
I really like those split rail pinwheels! They're going to grow up to be a gorgeous quilt!
I love being in the audience for your orphan events, and I love even more seeing what people do with the blocks they adopt. It's a good thing you're doing!
I will link up on your Quilty Orphan Adoption, I have saved a couple of projects. It always seems that when I give away, I get more back in abundance!
The orphan party is a great idea. Unfortunately for me, it's too costly to play along from Canada. Most people won't ship to Canada because of the increased cost. Good luck.
I still really like your RSC block. And, I admit I am a sucker for turquoise. I've made a note on my calendar to find at least one orphan project or block/s and write a post so I can link up. I would be happy to pass along a project or two to someone who would like to finish it and use it. Thanks for trying this again even though it wasn't as popular last fall. Maybe late winter is a better time.
Looking good!!
The simple rail fence blocks combined with graduated values makes for a stunning quilt. I love it already :-)
Oh you don't have medium teals? Some stash acquisitions may be required :-p
Your RSC is going to be lovely. And the orphan adoption event is intriguing! Don't know that I'd be willing to part with any of my own UFOs, though. How does the adoption event work? Can you adopt an orphan without giving one up? I might be interested in adopting an orphan that was close to the quilting stage, since that's my big learning curve focus right now.
I'll be participating again! I've got 6 projects queued up and ready to go out the door to find new homes! Thanks for coordinating this every year!
