Most of my time lately has been spent quilting client quilts (because everyone is sewing right now) and making face masks (because my family needs them). This is not giving me a lot of time to let my personal creativity flow. So I am finding myself in a real funk lately.
So I decided to spend some time getting out some scraps and making a block that I have been thinking about for weeks. The test block is a bit crooked but I do like the possibilities in it. It will finish at 13" square and now I just need to think about how I want to use the block. I could make it an RSC block and make a rainbow of block colors. Or I could make each block in a rainbow.
Hmmm...More to ponder on this one!
I also remembered I need to get crackin' on my 2020 Hands2Help quilts. As I was thinking about what I could make, my eyes landed on my overflowing bin of leftover binding pieces.
In no time I was starting to sew.
I decided to pair up red/orange/gold strips with purple/blue strips and make some 16 patch blocks.
This design is one of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts and I describe my process here.
I had to toss these blocks on the floor because all of my design walls are full and they seem to be projects I don't want to work on. It was far more interesting to think about new quilts!
Because I have been so busy during this time of Isolation, I have been thinking lately that I need a Staycation...Isn't that silly sounding! 😂
I think I have been locked up way too long....

I love your 16-patches, and your new block design is very cool. I'm curious to see how multiple blocks would look together.
Very nice 16 patch blocks. I love your tutorial on making them. I made a baby quilt with your pattern a while back, and your directions made it quick and easy. So thanks!
There's nothing like a 16 patch block - I always like quilts made of them! Hope you'll show how you made the top block someday, too. Glad you have lots of client work to do - in the long run that's good! Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!
one day seems to be running into another here and before we know it 5 weeks have passed since we have been staying home other than a few trips out for groceries. It is hard to concentrate but glad you have the quilts to quilt and scraps to use!
Oh, I like that new block!
LOL!! A staycation sounds like a wonderful idea, Cynthia! No packing, no expense, no lines at the airport. Just change your focus and there you are. Enjoy! :o))
With seemingly 24/7 to quilt these days, it's difficult to focus on quilting! You are in a unique situation. Because you have clients that are quilting like mad...you are swamped! I'm going a bit stark raving mad these days. After weeks of staying home I'm getting really cranky and find I just want some contact!
Playing with partial seams??? BIG fun!! (If you like that sort of thing.)
oooo your new block is cool... I immediately thought how will they interlink.
That new block has so many possibilities. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with it.
Hi Cynthia, it looks like you may be out of your creative funk! I really like the block and the 16 patch blocks. I think that we are all starting to feel that the isolation has scrambled our brains. Take care.
I have a scrappy project to link up this week!! wink, wink That block you've created is very interesting. I have some masks to make today, but I'm procrastinating.......
Am I right in thinking the new block requires Y-seams (or, more accurately, L-seams) to put the two halves together? Definitely an interesting block.
Neat new block! Can't quite wrap my head around how you did it though.

Isn't the new block just a log cabin with a rectangle center as a starting point? Then two pieces added to the center on top and bottom then the side pieces. I guess that's more a courthouse steps design. Anyway, it's intriguing.

Like Kathleen, I just can't figure out your new block! I hope you'll share how you made it, because it's really a cool one. Completely understand wanting to start new things and the old, in-process stuff isn't as appealing right now. Hopefully we'll all circle back around and finish up those, too :)
I look forward to seeing what you do with your block. It definitely has potential
I love your block from scraps and expect to see a great quilt come from more of them.
That's an interesting block and I can see it in rainbow colours. I love your vibrant 16 patch blocks, that's another quilt on my list but just like yourself I can's seem to settle on a project, going off at a tangent and making a start on something new, I've done this and then wished I had thought a little more about the project, my last one has been consigned to the Parts Bin!
Oh very interesting block! that will be fun to see where it goes! I am quilting for clients like crazy too! Its crazy fun! At least you can't get into trouble right? ha ha!
