Butterfly Finish

Not too long ago, I shared I had helped myself to some intriguing scraps I found in some bins at a friend's house.  They were bright and seemingly already cut to size to make some log cabin blocks.

Using all the scraps, I was able to finish up a total of nine blocks like the one above.
Just enough for a baby quilt.

I dug around in my stash and found this low volume print for a background.  I wanted about a 40" square quilt so after a bit of math, I decided on a 3.5" sashing around all the blocks.

I did have to fudge a bit on a few measurements.  It is not real noticeable but not all the blocks are the same size.  Because I used the strips and centers as they were cut, a couple of my blocks were under sized.  I think I hid it well :)

Isn't it cute?
I kind of got lucky that I had just the right color placement on the blocks to lay them out in the way I did.  It looks like I knew what I was doing all along!

I even used up some scraps on the back.  Both of these prints were leftovers from some quilt backings used long ago.

I always love working on these little projects that seem to just jump from the scrap bins into my hands.  I just sit at my machine and sew the bits together - it seems like the fabrics already know what they want to be.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Oh so pretty. I love scraps, too. Seems OPs (Other Peoples) are more fun than my own, and guess you found that irresistible, too. Lucky the baby recipient!

Very pretty finish. It does look planned and if the blocks aren't the same size, it's not noticeable.
