A Twin Sized Finish

I feel like I haven't been sewing much lately but I did manage to finish a scrappy twin sized quilt.

A whole bunch of 2.5" squares went into this!
I pulled a bunch of gray, turquoise and limey spring green prints and dug through my low volume scraps for some additional coordinating pieces.  I was surprised how many I actually had.

I used some 1.5" solid strips to frame every other block.

It turned out a bit busier than I was planning.  I should have used only darker frames so they didn't blend in so much.  But my mission is to use my scraps so I went with the colors I had.

I used one of my favorite extra wide Word Play fabrics (from Connecting Threads) for the back.  I didn't have one single print in the right color for the binding so I alternated a dot and swirl fabric.  I really like how it turned out.

I used a soft gray thread and quilted up some swirls.

The quilt measures 70 x 90.  It is hard to get a photo on a quilt this large!

I knew I had a made a similar quilt many, many years ago.  I hunted down a photo.  For this quilt I framed every block.  Looking at this, I wished I had framed every block on this new quilt.

Have a great weekend Everyone!
Stay Cool!!

I like your new finish just as it is! I also like your older finish too. It is interesting that the two are similar in the color palette. You can make changes on the next quilt you make. Big pat on the back for using so many scraps. Love the backing choice!

My brain was confused even though I read that you went looking for photos of a similar quilt. I kept scrolling back and forth, haha. I think the swirls are a nice soft compliment to all the squares and straight lines in the quilt. Hooray for some piecing time, even if it has felt short lately. :)

I love this finish! The every other framed block really lends to a happy movement in the quilt. You have once again showed us a beautiful scrappy colorway.

I love this color combination and the alternating framed and unframed blocks, too! Finishing a quilt is a big accomplishment when you're having busy days for other reasons!

I like both versions - borders on every or every other block. And I think it is great that you used up scraps. The resulting design might not be what you would have picked when free of restrains, but it makes it extra special :) And taste is so different. I would probably have opted for only light frames and left of the few dark ones... So many options ;) Enjoy your beautiful finish! I will pin it to my neverending idea list for scraps. xo Melanie

Love this quilt!
The colors are great and the alternate framing makes it move. I too love that backing fabric!!! Only I chop it up for my quilt blocks. It looks good in everything.

I agree with QuiltGranma in really liking the way the frames 'fade in and out'. To my mind they give the patchwork extra depth and interest. :-)

I like this version better than the first. I like how the frames connected diagonally through the quilt and I like the subtleness of the majority of the frames. Made me really look at the whole quilt. It's a beauty!
