Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!
This is one f my favorite rhododendrons in my yard. It is the slightest shade of pink.
Indoors, I have been focusing on making a bunch of scrappy placemats. The rest of my available time has been spent working on my May UFO project.
It is wonderfully scrappy too!
Because I am the only quilter in my family, almost all of the family quilty items have ended up at my house. One of the items is this hand pieced hexagon quilt top. I think the fabrics are all 1940's prints. I decided almost 15 years ago that I was going to hand quilt it. I finished about half of it and it has languished unfinished for about 12 years. With no progress at all.
It's number came up in the UFO challenge that me and a friend are competing in. So I have been working on it every evening - hoping to maybe finish it this month.
I decided to not get out my big floor frame but just to finish it using one of my big hoops. To say I am rusty is an understatement! Oh well, half of the quilt will have neat small stitches and the other half will be large. It is just for me to enjoy.
I am thoroughly enjoying looking at each of the wonderful prints!

Your rhododendron is beautiful, and the hexie quilt, too! I'm not very experienced at handquilting, but found that I really enjoy it. You'll be glad to finally finish that one! Happy Sunday!

That's a lovely picture of your Rhododendron. I can just imagine its wonderful scent. Enjoy! The trees around here have buds and the days are warmer. It's so nice that I didn't sew this week. I love what you are working on. So many different fabrics, it's awesome! ;^)

Hand quilting is wonderful -- but oh so time consuming. I hope you get that lovely hexi quilt finished this month. Those pale pink flowers are beautiful.

The hexie quilt is fabulous. I often do a warmup on scraps before doing machine fmq but it wouldn't have occured to me that you might need to do the same with hand quilting, but it makes sense!! (Not that I'm saying you should have done so. I often don't do a warmup as well. Let the stitches fall where they may :)

I hear you on the handquilting. I always admire my first quilt that I hand quilted. Nice neat evenly spaced stitches, showing up beautifully on a brown background. Back when I could see a LOT better than these days. Now, like you, my stitches are bigger, and not so even. But hey, at least we can still do it!
