Oh Scrap! : Switchplates

This week there was a lot of activity in my sewing room.  I have been busy sewing blocks into quilt tops, sewing up scraps into placemats and cutting fabrics for a few of my scrappy projects.

This included a bunch of pieces for my switchplate quilt.

I cut up a bunch of 3.5" x 1.5" strips to make these blocks that are green with yellow centers.  I have a few more various colors all sitting next to my sewing machine so I can chain piece them when I have the time.

I think these are all the blocks I have finished to date.  I am not even sure I have enough for a small quilt at this point!  I am pretty sure I will be working on this one into 2023.  One of these days I will need to sit down and do a bit of math to see exactly how many blocks I need.

I think this quilt will be loads of fun once I finish it!

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

When I first saw you making the Switch Plates you inspired me to start making them. I like them because I can make them from either 1.5 inch width scraps (and cut four 3.5 inch pieces) or use 3.5 inch width scraps (and cut four 1.5 inch pieces). Oh, I just love that staggered layout.

Those are fun in the bright greens! Really, they are fun in every color, and will make a great design no matter how you lay them out. Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!

What a lovely and fun project Cynthia. I have some old yellow fabrics from ancient times. Maybe I should start cutting them up for centers? The smaller pieces you cut them to, the more you can use "ugly" fabrics. Thanks for the idea.

Switchplate is the perfect name for those blocks. Seeing them on your design wall in rainbow order is such a happy photo!

My allergies have been acting up so those looked like tissue boxes at first. Yes they are great switchplate blocks too. Multipurpose!
